PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Thiago Leithes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frankie Furzon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Thiago Leithes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Frankie Furzon!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Ackerman and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Furzon tries to keep at a distance but Leithes has taken the fight into the clinch.
Furzon lands a hook to the side of the head.
Furzon stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Furzon is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Leithes pulls him back up using the underhooks.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Furzon creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Leithes jumps guard and drags Furzon to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Leithes is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Furzon is aware though and is defending well.
Leithes has control of Furzon's left arm, preventing Furzon from doing any damage.
Leithes keeping moving, preventing Furzon from controlling successfully.
Furzon must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Leithes looking to hit a scissor sweep but Furzon is one step ahead there.

Furzon really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Leithes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Leithes pushes Furzon off and gets back to his feet.
Furzon displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Leithes.

Leithes tries to keep at a distance but Furzon has taken the fight into the clinch.

Furzon crunches a lovely knee into Leithes's ribcage.

Furzon stalling the fight.
Furzon keeps control of Leithes as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Leithes wants to break free but Furzon has control.

Furzon's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Furzon dodges the punch combination from Leithes.

Furzon darts in and clinches Leithes up against the cage.
Leithes tries to pull guard but Furzon forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Leithes is breathing heavily.
Furzon lands an elbow inside that Leithes shrugs off.


It looks like Thiago Leithes has been cut.

Leithes is trying to force a seperation but Furzon has the dominant position.

Furzon escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Furzon is looking to clinch.
Furzon tries to clinch up.

Furzon gets a clinch.
Furzon slowing the pace effectively.
Furzon wants a takedown.
Furzon misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Leithes.

Furzon pulls Leithes into guard.
Leithes prevents Furzon from getting back to his feet.
Furzon wants to sweep but no luck.

Leithes wants to control from the top but Furzon keeps moving.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Leithes gets to his feet. Furzon looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Furzon gets in close and instigates a clinch.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
A frustrated look appears on Leithes's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Furzon has Leithes pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Furzon pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Leithes tumbling to the mat - Furzon dives into Leithes's guard.

A close round but Frankie Furzon will probably get the nod.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Leithes shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Furzon sprawls well. Furzon wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Leithes gets slowly back to his feet.
Leithes misses with a wild body shot.
Furzon wants to clinch but Leithes slips to the side

and Leithes counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Leithes.
Leithes letting Furzon take a breather here.
Furzon gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Leithes.

Furzon breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Furzon tries to close the distance and clinch but Leithes swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Leithes shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Furzon counters by clinching up.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Furzon pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Furzon tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Leithes paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Leithes shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Leithes is looking to clinch.

Furzon pushes Leithes up against the cage in a clinch.

Furzon tightens his grip and picks Leithes up, before dumping him to the ground. Leithes manages to land in guard.
Leithes has Furzon pulled in close to control his posture.
Furzon wants to control from the top but Leithes keeps moving.
Furzon distracts Leithes with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Leithes keeping moving, preventing Furzon from controlling successfully.
Leithes trying to keep a closed guard but Furzon is proving a slippery customer.

Leithes looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Furzon passes into half guard.
Leithes might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Furzon wants to lay and pray for a moment but Leithes keeps working.
Furzon takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Furzon is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Furzon not doing much here.
Furzon wants to pass the guard but Leithes is defending well.

Leithes pushes Furzon off and gets back to his feet.

Furzon wants to clinch but Leithes slips to the side
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Furzon doesn't manage to clinch there - Leithes circles away.

Leithes gets tackled into the cage by Furzon. Furzon maintains the clinch.

Furzon manages to pull guard.
Leithes trying to control but Furzon is working from the bottom.
Leithes tries to free his leg and advance position but Furzon is retaining full guard.
Furzon wants to sweep but no luck.
Furzon avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Furzon keeping moving, preventing Leithes from controlling successfully.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Furzon wants to sweep here but Leithes controlling him for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frankie Furzon showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Leithes's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!



Furzon closes the distance and pushes Leithes back into the cage.
Furzon just leaning against Leithes, taking a breather.
Leithes has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Leithes managing to block the knees to the body from Furzon.

Furzon manages to break the clinch.
Leithes throws a sloppy head kick and Furzon moves out of range easily.
Furzon closes the distance but Leithes moves to the side

and Leithes counters with a nice double leg into side control. Furzon won't be happy with that.
Furzon manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Leithes is looking for a sweep. Furzon is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Furzon is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Leithes is looking to improve his position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Furzon tries to pass the half guard into mount. Leithes knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Furzon is looking for a kimura but Leithes is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Furzon to get the leverage.
Leithes moves into full guard.
Leithes pulls Furzon in to control the position.
Furzon lands a couple of decent looking shots.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Furzon loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Furzon postures up in Leithes's guard and throws a big left but Leithes blocks it.
Leithes manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Furzon manages to get himself to full guard.
Furzon is looking to stand up but Leithes isn't so interested in that idea.
Furzon has a closed guard, preventing Leithes from standing up.
Leithes pushing down on Furzon's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Leithes wants to take a breather but Furzon is having none of it.
Furzon is looking to improve his position.
Furzon is looking to escape.
Furzon is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Frankie Furzon is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Leithes decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Furzon tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Leithes circles away from the clinch attempt

and Leithes counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Furzon!
Leithes can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Furzon is looking to escape.

Furzon is wriggling around trying to escape.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Leithes wants to control the pace but Furzon is squirming around nicely.
Furzon is in all sorts of trouble here.
Furzon really wants to buck Leithes off and get back to his feet.
Furzon is squirming around, avoiding Leithes's attempts to control the action.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that's the end of the fight!
Thiago Leithes showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Furzon has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
