The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Merchant is looking to clinch but Walker is avoiding it.
Walker displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Merchant.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Merchant is defended easily by Walker.

and Merchant cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Merchant changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Walker tries to avoid it but Merchant manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Walker to the ground. Walker escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Merchant shoots in but no luck this time.

Merchant gets tackled into the cage by Walker. Walker maintains the clinch.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Walker has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Merchant uses from the top position.
Walker lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Merchant!

Merchant misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Walker avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Merchant cracks Walker with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

so Walker counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Merchant escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Walker gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Merchant is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Matthew Walker.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Walker, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
