PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Unigu Rege (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kazna Futzchag (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Futzchag is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Dione . Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Unigu Rege!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kazna Futzchag!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Anthony Taglia and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rege throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Futzchag.

Rege bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Futzchag sneaks back into half guard.
Rege controlling the action here.
Futzchag trying to hold on to Rege's head to control him but Rege postures up.
Rege missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Rege passes to full mount!
Rege takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Rege with a couple of short strikes.
Rege tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Futzchag is trying desperately to improve position.

Rege stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Futzchag.

Futzchag shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Futzchag was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Rege tries to hold on but Futzchag postures up.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Futzchag trying to control but Rege is having none of it.
Rege tries to hold on but Futzchag pushes him away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Futzchag unloads with some shots from mount but Rege bucks and avoids them well.
Rege gets back to half guard.
Rege is pressing down on Futzchag's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Rege manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Futzchag manages to get himself to full guard.
Rege sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Rege seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Futzchag for as long as he can get away with.

Rege controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Kazna Futzchag wasn't active enough on the ground.
Futzchag wants to clinch up but Rege keeps it at a distance.
A telegraphed right hand from Futzchag misses the target.
Horrible takedown by Rege or perhaps it was just good defense by Futzchag which made him look bad.
Futzchag throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Futzchag swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Kazna Futzchag seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rege swats away the attempt to clinch by Futzchag.
Rege takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Futzchag moves in looking to clinch but Rege pushes him off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Unigu Rege dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Futzchag throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Rege shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Rege content to control rather than advance.
Futzchag really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rege. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Futzchag is trying to get back to full guard.

Rege is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Futzchag has managed to free his arm - good work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Futzchag is looking for a sweep. Rege is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Futzchag taking some punishment here, with Rege in his half guard.
Futzchag is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Futzchag keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Futzchag on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Rege wants to get back to his feet.
Futzchag tries to kick Rege off but Rege keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Rege stalling.
Rege prevents Futzchag from standing back up.
Rege missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Rege is pressing down on Futzchag's thigh, looking to free his foot. Futzchag is holding on for now.

We're going to have a standup here because Unigu Rege wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Futzchag pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Futzchag tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Rege decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Futzchag's guard.
Rege wants to pass the guard but Futzchag is keeping the position.

Rege decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Futzchag, up you get!

Rege drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Futzchag wants to stand up but Rege is controlling him.
Rege trying to control the position from guard on top but Futzchag is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rege slips nicely into half guard.
Well, if Rege is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Unigu Rege dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Rege has his takedown stuffed
and Futzchag counters with a stiff right hand.
Futzchag darts in trying to clinch

and Rege counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Rege pushes down on Futzchag's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Futzchag tries to get to full guard but Rege has control of the leg.
Futzchag won't allow Rege to pass to mount.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Rege in particular looking to stall.

Rege is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Futzchag sees it coming and defends easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Futzchag tries to roll over but Rege keeps him under control.
Rege performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Rege stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Futzchag lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Futzchag has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Futzchag tries for a takedown but Rege sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Rege slaps away a takedown attempt from Futzchag, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Rege throws a head kick but Futzchag moves out of range.

and Rege counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Rege.
Unigu Rege has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kazna Futzchag.
Futzchag tries to pull guard but Rege won't allow it.

Rege manages to pull guard.

Futzchag stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rege swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Unigu Rege is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Rege pulls Futzchag in close to prevent any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Kazna Futzchag was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Rege gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Futzchag tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Futzchag is trying to drag Rege to the mat but Rege just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Futzchag with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Kazna Futzchag has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Rege's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Futzchag doesn't manage to clinch there - Rege circles away.
Rege closes the distance and clinches up with Futzchag, looking for a takedown. Rege pushes Futzchag against the cage but Futzchag circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Futzchag lands a lovely overhand right.

Rege decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Rege moves into full mount! Futzchag won't be happy about that!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rege prevents Futzchag from getting the reversal.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rege controlling the pace for now.
Futzchag in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.

And that's the end of the fight!
Unigu Rege showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Rege, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
