Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kristof Kurenic! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Brian Pagan! The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Anni Minnemäki and Ben Zyskovitsi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kurenic gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Brian Pagan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Kurenic shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Pagan but Pagan pushes him off and we're back to square one. Pagan scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Kurenic tries to land a leg kick but Pagan saw it coming and moves away.
Pagan feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Kurenics jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! Pagan lands with a straight right. Kurenic didn't see that one coming. Kurenic moves into the clinch. Pagan lands with a light punch inside. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Pagan is trying to break the clinch but Kurenic has him pressed against the ropes. Kurenic is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Pagan pulls him back up using the underhooks. Pagan wants to get back to striking at distance but Kurenic won't allow it.
Pagan has had enough of the clinch but Kurenic keeps him there for the moment. Pagan avoiding damage.
Kurenic's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Pagan comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Pagan lands a nice shot to the body.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pagan lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Pagan stuffs the takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kristof Kurenic. That's going to take a lot out of him. Pagan connects with a combination that backs up Kurenic into the ropes. Pagan lands a flurry of punches that gets past Kurenic's guard. Kurenic is down and the referee has seen enough. It is all over! Pagan bursts into tears - this win obviously means a huge amount to him.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Brian Pagan!
