Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, JD Repooc! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ray Oliver! The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Trevor Gratis and William Peck.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Oliver misses with a takedown attempt - Repooc sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Repooc moves into the clinch. Oliver has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Repooc clear over his head and slammed him to the mat! Repooc looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands. Oliver working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet. Oliver throwing lazy shots from the back mount that aren't doing any damage. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Oliver throws a series of strikes and Repooc wriggles onto his back, so he's now mounted. He's in real trouble here. Poor strikes thrown by Oliver there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
That's one minute gone in the round. Repooc is squirming around, avoiding Oliver's attempts to control the action. Oliver controlling his opponent. Oliver trying to control but he's not successful this time.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Oliver might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Repooc kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Ray Oliver wasn't active enough on the ground. Oliver shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Repooc is trying to escape the mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Repooc wants to hold on but Oliver pushes him away. Oliver fails to take his opponent's back. Oliver swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Ray Oliver! Ray Oliver retains his lightweight title!
