PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Stu Gotts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason McNeil (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gotts's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Godfather Theme. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Stu Gotts!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 10 - 1, fighting out of New York, Jason McNeil!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, William Peck and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gotts throws an overhand right that lands on McNeil's shoulder, as McNeil tries to avoid the shot.
McNeil jabs Gotts to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Gotts keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Gotts throws a right hand that misses

and McNeil counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by McNeil.
Gotts pulls McNeil in close to prevent any damage.
McNeil's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Gotts controls McNeil momentarily but McNeil frees himself.
Gotts tries to land a sweep but no joy.

We're going to have a standup here because Stu Gotts wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
A telegraphed right hand from Gotts misses the target.

That's one minute gone in the round.

and McNeil counters with a nice double leg into side control. Gotts won't be happy with that.
McNeil sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Gotts is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
McNeil works to advance to full mount. Gotts defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
McNeil looking to finish with strikes here!
Gotts is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
McNeil with a couple of short strikes.
McNeil controlling the pace for now.
Gotts tries to hold on but McNeil postures up.

McNeil controlling from the full mount.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Gotts takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Gotts keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

McNeil trying to control but he's not successful this time.
McNeil content just to control the position here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

McNeil jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Gotts manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Gotts is not content to let McNeil control the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
McNeil takes a little break here. Gotts wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McNeil is looking to take a break and control but Gotts is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

McNeil tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no McNeil has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
McNeil landing strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Gotts is desperately trying to improve his position but McNeil has a good base and remains in mount.
McNeil landing strikes, looking to finish!
McNeil scoring with strikes but Gotts is staying in there.
Gotts is squirming around, avoiding McNeil's attempts to control the action.
McNeil has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
McNeil takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
McNeil tries to control but Gotts wriggling away.

Gotts is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Gotts is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
McNeil content just to control the position here.
McNeil cracks Gotts with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

McNeil is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Gotts has managed to escape the submission attempt.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
McNeil looking to land elbow strikes but Gotts uses the position to regain half guard.
McNeil is taking a breather. Gotts says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

McNeil wants to work for an arm triangle but Gotts is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
McNeil not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

McNeil is keen to just control but Gotts is a slippery customer.
McNeil with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Gotts wants to get back to full guard.
McNeil passes to side control.
McNeil trying to control the position but Gotts is working away.
McNeil content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Gotts takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
A lull in the action here.

McNeil tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
McNeil is trying to ground and pound but Gotts uses the momentary lack of control by McNeil to regain half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jason McNeil showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Gotts throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Gotts throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Gotts looks to land a right hand but McNeil moved out of range.

and McNeil counters with a shoot takedown. Gotts fights it but they end up in guard.
McNeil distracts Gotts with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
McNeil advances position into side control!
Gotts knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for McNeil on the ground.
McNeil wants to control but Gotts is keeping him busy.
McNeil controlling the position.
Gotts on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Gotts tries to get out of the position.

McNeil is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Gotts has escaped the position, nice work there.
McNeil working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

McNeil tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no McNeil has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Gotts trying to remain calm as McNeil controls from the top position.
McNeil wants to control but Gotts is keeping him busy.
McNeil lands a few punches from side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

McNeil wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Gotts, who protects the arm well.
Gotts is not content to let McNeil control the position.
McNeil has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Gotts!
Stu Gotts has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

McNeil jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Gotts manages to avoid the submission attempt.
McNeil cracks Gotts with a big right hand but Gotts just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gotts is trying to get back to half guard.
McNeil moves into full mount!

McNeil is working for a guillotine from mount but Gotts frees his head quite easily.
Jason McNeil is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
This has been an exciting period of action!
McNeil content just to control the position here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jason McNeil comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got McNeil winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
