The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kochergin doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Smith counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Kochergin has his foot on Smith's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Smith works his way back into a safe position though.

Smith stands up and waves to Kochergin to follow him.

and Smith counters with a shoot takedown. Kochergin fights it but they end up in guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Kochergin is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Smith defends well.
Kochergin might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Smith not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Smith wants to pass the guard but Kochergin is keeping the position.

Smith is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Smith in particular looking to stall.

Kochergin throws his legs up looking for a submission but Smith uses it to pass to side control.
Smith cracks Kochergin with a big elbow.

Kochergin misses with a hook

and Smith counters with a shoot takedown. Kochergin fights it but they end up in guard.
Smith stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kochergin swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Smith controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Kochergin looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Smith is defending well. Kochergin quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Smith has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Kochergin celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
