PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nate Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jesper Nielsen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nielsen has chosen Ni**as in paris as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Nate Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jesper Nielsen!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Edson Gomes and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nielsen tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Diaz was well out of range. Poor timing from Nielsen.

Diaz drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Diaz looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Diaz throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Nielsen wants to control but Diaz postures up.
Nielsen prevents Diaz from improving position.
Nielsen is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Diaz seems to be looking for submissions.
Diaz is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Nielsen reverses the position - he's now on top in Diaz's guard.

Diaz is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Nielsen is aware though and is defending well.
Nielsen cracks Diaz with a solid left hand.
Nielsen missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Diaz has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Nielsen can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Diaz has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Nielsen is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Diaz.

Nielsen landing strikes.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Diaz is looking to reverse the position.
Nielsen trying to control the action but Diaz is working from the bottom.
Nielsen just content to control the position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Diaz taking a bit of punishment here - Nielsen scoring with strikes.
You can see the frustration on Diaz's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Diaz is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Nielsen is controlling him well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nielsen working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

Nielsen wants to lay and pray for a moment but Diaz keeps working.
Diaz is trying to control Nielsen's posture but Nielsen avoids it.
Nielsen working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Diaz tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Diaz pushes Nielsen away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Nielsen gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Nielsen has eaten all the pies!
Diaz manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Diaz trying to hold on to Nielsen's head to control him but Nielsen postures up.
Diaz moves into full guard.
Diaz keeping moving, preventing Nielsen from controlling successfully.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nielsen throws a big right hand that misses.
Diaz working a defensive guard here.

Diaz looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Nielsen passes into half guard.
Diaz is looking to escape.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Diaz trying to control but Nielsen postures up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Diaz looking for submissions off his back.
Nielsen thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Diaz's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Nate Diaz will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


A decent looking cross lands there for Nielsen.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Nielsen as he jumps to the side.
Nielsen throws a right hand that Diaz ducks under and follows up with a left that Diaz also avoids with ease.
Diaz closes the distance and clinches up with Nielsen, looking for a takedown. Diaz pushes Nielsen against the cage but Nielsen circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Nielsen fails to land with a series of punches.
The fight stays on the outside here - Diaz looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Nielsen slaps away a takedown attempt from Diaz, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nate Diaz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A combination from Nielsen does no damage.
Nielsen misses with a double jab.
Nielsen misses with a jab, cross combination.
Diaz slips under a jab from Nielsen.

Diaz manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Nielsen on his heels. He'll look to pass Nielsen's guard now, I'm sure.
Diaz trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Nielsen manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Diaz looking to hit a scissor sweep but Nielsen is one step ahead there.

Nielsen looking to sit in guard and control but Diaz gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Diaz tries to free his leg and advance position but Nielsen is retaining full guard.
Diaz sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Nielsen's guard.
Diaz will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Diaz is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Nielsen doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Diaz.
Diaz stalling away here and it's allowed Nielsen to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nielsen has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Diaz looking to pass the guard.
Diaz not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Diaz gets to his feet - Nielsen follows without any prompting.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sloppy strikes from Diaz. Those never looked like landing.
A right-left combo lands from Nielsen.
Nielsen scores to the head and body with a nice combination!


Diaz is rocked!
Diaz misses with a takedown attempt - Nielsen sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Oh Diaz is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Nielsen lands with a good body shot.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
A big right followed by a crushing left from Nielsen knocks Diaz out cold! Ouch - that one's going to be featured in highlight reels for years to come!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Jesper Nielsen!
A relieved looking Jesper Nielsen thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
