Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fernando Balestra!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chris Fredderson!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Thiago Cunha and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fredderson has closed the distance and engaged Balestra in a clinch.
Balestra is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Fredderson's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Balestra throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Balestra circles away from the clinch attempt.
Balestra looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Fredderson with a poor takedown

and Balestra counters with a shoot takedown. Fredderson fights it but they end up in guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Balestra got a little sloppy there for a moment and Fredderson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Balestra has managed to get both his arms back between Fredderson's legs - danger averted.
Balestra stays in close to Fredderson's body and controls the position.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Balestra content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Balestra is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Fernando Balestra has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Sloppy strikes from Balestra. Those never looked like landing.
Fredderson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Balestra sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Fredderson somewhat.
Fredderson looks for the body kick but Balestra saw that one coming.

Balestra drives through and clinches with Fredderson against the cage.

Fredderson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Balestra is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Fredderson's half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Balestra is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Fredderson looks gassed!
Fredderson tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Fredderson tries to improve his position but Balestra has taken his back! Balestra has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Fredderson tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Balestra pushes Fredderson away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Fernando Balestra!
