PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Marcus Powerhouse (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Koveras Corthala (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Corthala has chosen Filth Pig as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Marcus Powerhouse!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Koveras Corthala!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Colin Fray and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Powerhouse throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Powerhouse shoots in but no luck this time.
Powerhouse shoots in looking for a takedown but Corthala manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Powerhouse's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Powerhouse.

Powerhouse stands up and beckons Corthala to his feet.
Powerhouse fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Corthala is out of range.

Powerhouse gets tackled into the cage by Corthala. Corthala maintains the clinch.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
Corthala prevents Powerhouse from breaking the clinch.
Powerhouse misses with a knee to the head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A bit of stalling here from Corthala.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Powerhouse on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Corthala is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Powerhouse ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Powerhouse no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Powerhouse has his hands on Corthala's head, controlling the position.
Corthala wants to control from the top but Powerhouse keeps moving.
Corthala looking to pass the guard.
Powerhouse is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Corthala trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Powerhouse keeping moving, preventing Corthala from controlling successfully.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Koveras Corthala was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Powerhouse keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Corthala tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Powerhouse manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Powerhouse connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.


It looks like Koveras Corthala has been cut.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Powerhouse tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Corthala was well out of range. Poor timing from Powerhouse.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Corthala enables Powerhouse to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Corthala manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Powerhouse slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Powerhouse stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Corthala tries to clinch but Powerhouse is having none of it.
Powerhouse lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Powerhouse scores a takedown into full mount!
Powerhouse looking to control and managing it successfully.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Corthala tries to hold on but Powerhouse pushes him away.
Corthala is trying to reverse the position but instead Powerhouse has taken his back - oops!
Powerhouse lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Corthala hold on?!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Powerhouse is working the back position looking for the choke. Oh, he's slid into an armbar! Beautiful transition and Corthala taps out! Fantastic Jiu Jitsu from Powerhouse.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Marcus Powerhouse!
