PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Luke Kilpatrick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Hodson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kilpatrick comes to the cage accompanied by Parkway Drive - Dark Days. The crowd seem to be enjoying Hodson's choice of entrance music: Break Some Off by KoRn. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Luke Kilpatrick!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Matt Hodson!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Damien Edna and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hodson walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Hodson moves in looking to clinch but Kilpatrick pushes him off.
Hodson tries to clinch
and Kilpatrick counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Hodson uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Kilpatrick.
Hodson avoids a punch combination nicely.
Hodson misses with a looping left.

Kilpatrick fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Hodson to the ground. Kilpatrick is now in Hodson's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kilpatrick stops Hodson from standing up.
Kilpatrick trying to control the position from guard on top but Hodson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Hodson pushes Kilpatrick off and gets back to his feet.
Kilpatrick fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Hodson looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Hodson looks gassed!

Kilpatrick moves into the clinch successfully.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hodson misses with the head strike.
Kilpatrick is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Hodson is keeping busy.
Hodson missing with knees to the body.
Hodson stalling against the cage.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
A nice left hand lands by Hodson.
A left hand lands to the body for Kilpatrick.
Hodson stalling in the clinch but Kilpatrick improves position.
Kilpatrick lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Hodson.
Kilpatrick leaning against his opponent.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.

Hodson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Kilpatrick drops Hodson with a nice combination! Kilpatrick dives into Hodson's guard, looking to finish!


Hodson is rocked!


It looks like Matt Hodson has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hodson wants to sweep here but Kilpatrick controlling him for the moment.
Hodson is still in real trouble! Can Kilpatrick finish him?
Kilpatrick advances position into side control!

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Kilpatrick is trying to get an arm triangle but Hodson is defending well.
Hodson seems to have recovered his senses.
Kilpatrick throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Hodson works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Kilpatrick is keen to just control but Hodson is a slippery customer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kilpatrick looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Hodson is not content to let Kilpatrick control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hodson tries to kick Kilpatrick off but Kilpatrick keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Kilpatrick looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Hodson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Kilpatrick trying to pass the guard but Hodson defending well.
Hodson is looking to improve his position.
Kilpatrick slows the pace down in half guard.
Kilpatrick is looking to advance position but Hodson won't allow it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hodson looks like he's trying to stand up.
Kilpatrick is trying to control the action in half guard but Hodson is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Kilpatrick thows a huge punch but Hodson dodges it nicely.
Hodson is not content to let Kilpatrick control the position.
Kilpatrick is really struggling to control Hodson but he's trying to hold on to the position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

The ref stands the fighters back up because Luke Kilpatrick just wasn't active enough.

Kilpatrick closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hodson has Kilpatrick pressed against the cage, preventing Kilpatrick from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Hodson working hard to break the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Luke Kilpatrick dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Matt Hodson's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

and Kilpatrick makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Kilpatrick throws a body punch but Hodson moves out of range.
Kilpatrick misses with a body shot.
Hodson moves in looking to clinch but Kilpatrick pushes him off.
Hodson cracks Kilpatrick with a right hand to the side of the head.
Kilpatrick throws a good cross that connects.
Kilpatrick checks a leg kick nicely.
Luke Kilpatrick is winning the standup battle so far.
Kilpatrick misses the shot to the body.
Kilpatrick swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Hodson.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hodson uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Kilpatrick has time to react.
Kilpatrick throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Kilpatrick jabs at Hodson's body.
Kilpatrick tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Hodson was well out of range. Poor timing from Kilpatrick.
Matt Hodson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hodson is breathing heavily.
Kilpatrick throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hodson takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Kilpatrick looks to score with a jab to the body but Hodson is just out of range.
Hodson throws a body punch but Kilpatrick moves out of range.
Kilpatrick ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Kilpatrick throws a low kick, looking for Hodson's leg but Hodson calmly moves out of range.
Kilpatrick scores with a jab to the body.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kilpatrick connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Kilpatrick lands an overhand right.

Kilpatrick closes the distance and pushes Hodson back into the cage.

Kilpatrick pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Kilpatrick is pawing at Hodson, trying to feel the distance before throwing out a cross that crashes into Hodson's nose. Hodson is badly hurt! Kilpatrick pounces, throwing wild strikes as both fighters end up on the ground! Hodson tries desperately to hold on but Kilpatrick is relentless in his assault! As Hodson receives an ever increasing number of unanswered strikes the referee pulls Kilpatrick away and this one is in the books!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:50 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Luke Kilpatrick!
