Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Skantze Jr! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Diego Sanchez! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Alec Ball and William Peck.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Skantze Jr goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Sanchez closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Sanchez fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Sanchez decides to take the fight back to the feet. Sanchez closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Sanchez wants to control but Skantze Jr is keeping him busy. Sanchez lands with a punch from half guard. Skantze Jr looking for submissions off his back. Sanchez seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Skantze Jr does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Skantze Jr throws a right hand that Sanchez ducks under and follows up with a left that Sanchez also avoids with ease. Sanchez has Skantze Jr up against the cage in a clinch.

Sanchez throws a front kick aimed at Skantze Jr's knee but Skantze Jr avoids it well. Sanchez shoots in for a takedown but Skantze Jr shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Skantze Jr gets tackled into the cage by Sanchez. Sanchez maintains the clinch. Sanchez escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Excellent takedown into side control there by Sanchez. This has been an exciting period of action! Sanchez controls the position. Sanchez working away. Sanchez working the head with strikes. Skantze Jr is letting Sanchez control him for a moment. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The ground and pound from Sanchez seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Sanchez trying to control the position but Skantze Jr is working away. Skantze Jr can't do much from the bottom here. Skantze Jr tries to buck Sanchez off but Sanchez is having none of it.

Diego Sanchez dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Skantze Jr shoots for a double leg takedown but Sanchez sprawls well. He's pushed Skantze Jr's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Sanchez lands with a kick to the temple. Skantze Jr shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Skantze Jr looks to land a combination but Sanchez avoids it well. Skantze Jr defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Sanchez. Sanchez will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Skantze Jr throws a body punch but Sanchez moves out of range. Sanchez fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Skantze Jr, pushing him back against the cage. Skantze Jr can't break the clinch.

Skantze Jr tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Sanchez was well out of range. Poor timing from Skantze Jr. Skantze Jr looks to land a combination but Sanchez avoids it well. A head kick from Sanchez lands but Skantze Jr takes it in his stride. Sanchez scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Skantze Jr is looking for a sweep. Sanchez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Skantze Jr is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Sanchez pulls his head out easily. Sanchez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Skantze Jr keeps working. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Sanchez scoring with strikes to the body and head. Sanchez is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Skantze Jr! Sanchez with good strikes from the mount here! Sanchez with a couple of short strikes.

Sanchez cracks Skantze Jr with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Skantze Jr is squirming around, avoiding Sanchez's attempts to control the action. Skantze Jr bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Sanchez throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Skantze Jr is looking to stand up but Sanchez won't let him. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Sanchez controlling the position.
We're going to have a standup here because John Skantze Jr wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Skantze Jr misses with a few strikes there.
Sanchez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Skantze Jr sprawls well. Skantze Jr wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Sanchez gets slowly back to his feet. Sanchez gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Skantze Jr throws a nice looking combination but Sanchez bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Sanchez pushes Skantze Jr up against the cage in a clinch. Skantze Jr tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Sanchez smiles and moves away.

Skantze Jr looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Sanchez drops back looking for a leg! Skantze Jr is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Skantze Jr manages to kick Sanchez off! Sanchez jumps back into Skantze Jr's guard. Skantze Jr is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Sanchez defends well. Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Sanchez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Sanchez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Skantze Jr tries to land a sweep but no joy. Skantze Jr has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Sanchez is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Skantze Jr. Sanchez wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Skantze Jr, who protects the arm well. Sanchez decides to take the fight back to the feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sanchez gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Skantze Jr jumps guard but Sanchez turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Sanchez avoiding damage.

Sanchez wants to get back to his feet but Skantze Jr is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Skantze Jr is fighting to break Sanchez's control of his arms but Sanchez is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Skantze Jr stops Sanchez from standing up. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Skantze Jr postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Sanchez is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Skantze Jr, into his guard. Skantze Jr is trying to hold Sanchez in close to prevent damage but Sanchez has managed to pass into half guard.
Skantze Jr is looking for a sweep. Sanchez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Skantze Jr makes his way to full guard, as Sanchez worked for a kimura.
Sanchez must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Sanchez wants to control from the top but Skantze Jr keeps moving.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sanchez gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Skantze Jr looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Sanchez cracks the inside of Skantze Jr's front leg. Skantze Jr throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Sanchez closes the distance and clinches. Sanchez has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Skantze Jr fails to pull the fight into his guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Skantze Jr. That's going to take a lot out of him. Sanchez jumps into guard, dragging Skantze Jr to the mat.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Sanchez looking for a sweep. Not yet Sanchez, not yet. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Sanchez is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Skantze Jr defends well. John Skantze Jr has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Skantze Jr thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
And that's the end of the fight! Diego Sanchez comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Sanchez has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
