PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jon Savage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Travis Bride (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jon Savage!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Travis Bride!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Russell Pearce and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bride fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Savage avoids it really well and circles away.
Jon Savage seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Savage throws a head kick that misses.
Savage tries for a takedown but Bride circles away easily

and Bride decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Savage's guard.
Bride stops Savage from standing up.

Savage escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bride gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Bride is looking to work some ground and pound but Savage has wrist control.

Bride decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Bride closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Savage to the mat! Savage manages to get full guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Bride is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Savage looking to control.
Savage keeping moving, preventing Bride from controlling successfully.
Savage pulls Bride in close to prevent any damage.
Savage working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Bride.
Bride looking to pass the guard.
Bride controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Bride has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Travis Bride.
Savage tries to close the distance and clinch up but Bride swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Savage is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A chopping leg kick lands by Savage.

Bride shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Bride was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Savage is trying to escape the mount.
Savage is breathing heavily.

Bride get's back to his feet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Savage tries to keep at a distance but Bride has taken the fight into the clinch.
Savage slows down the pace here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Savage has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Bride avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Savage dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
Savage is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Bride to keep the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jon Savage. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Bride pulls guard successfully.
Savage stopping the sweep attempt from Bride.
Bride pulls Savage in close to prevent any damage.
Bride looking for a sweep. Not yet Bride, not yet.
Bride is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bride manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Bride postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Savage looks a forlorn figure.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Travis Bride dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Bride looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Savage stuns Bride with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Savage shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Savage has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Savage drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Bride manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Savage has Bride in his guard.
Savage looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Savage is looking to sweep but instead, Bride has passed into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Bride is trying to work for a kimura but Savage is defending well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bride uses his free foot to push down on Savage's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Savage.
Savage wants to control but Bride is having none of it.
Savage in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Bride connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Bride avoids the attempt from Savage to control.

Savage has left one of his arms exposed and Bride doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Savage screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
