PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Igor Szarafin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Szarafin comes to the cage accompanied by PC PARK - KLATKA!. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Igor Szarafin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jimmy Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, John Kavanagh and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson slaps away a takedown attempt from Szarafin, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Szarafin tries to clinch up
and Johnson counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Johnson scores with a hook to the body. Szarafin takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Johnson rushes Szarafin and presses him up against the cage.

Johnson works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Szarafin looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Johnson is stalling in the full guard.
It looks like Johnson might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Szarafin is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Johnson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Szarafin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Johnson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jimmy Johnson.

Szarafin got a little sloppy there for a moment and Johnson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Szarafin has managed to get both his arms back between Johnson's legs - danger averted.

Szarafin is nestled in close to Johnson, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Szarafin is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Johnson doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Szarafin.
Szarafin is keen to just control but Johnson is a slippery customer.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Johnson can do anything to dispel that myth.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Johnson is looking to control Szarafin's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Johnson avoid being mounted?
The fighters are battling for position here. Johnson manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Szarafin fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Johnson avoids it really well and circles away.
Johnson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Igor Szarafin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Johnson wants to stand but Szarafin has his arm trapped.
You can see the frustration on Szarafin's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Szarafin could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Johnson tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Szarafin has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Johnson is working away from the top position though.

Johnson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Johnson is keen to just control but Szarafin is a slippery customer.

Johnson seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Johnson is looking for a kimura but Szarafin is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Johnson to get the leverage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Igor Szarafin will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Szarafin shoots for a takedown but Johnson saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Szarafin shoots in looking for a takedown. Johnson tries to sprawl out of it but Szarafin keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Johnson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Johnson darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Szarafin is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Johnson pulls his head out easily.
Johnson wants to pass to mount but Szarafin is defending the position.

Johnson thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Johnson moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Szarafin is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Szarafin gets underhooks to prevent Johnson's takedown attempt.

Johnson is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Szarafin can't fight it off and eventually Johnson manages to take the fight to the floor. Szarafin looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Szarafin looking for a triangle here. Johnson is fighting it but it looks tight! Szarafin pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Johnson is tapping out - this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:50 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Igor Szarafin!
