Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Bowens!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Todd Hayes!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Robert Twigg and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hayes throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Bowens was covering up waiting for the punch and Hayes finishes the takedown easily into guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Hayes trying to control but Bowens is working from the bottom.

Bowens looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Hayes passes into side control.
Bowens sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hayes wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bowens keeps working.

Bowens looking for submissions off his back.

Bowens wants to get back to full guard.
Hayes is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Hayes is keen to just control but Bowens is a slippery customer.
Bowens wants to get back to full guard but Hayes has passed into side control.
Bowens is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Bowens is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Hayes pulls his head out easily.

Hayes perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Bowens is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Hayes pulls his head out easily.
Hayes is looking to stall here but Bowens recovers full guard.
Bowens looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Bowens is looking for a triangle but Hayes pushes his legs off easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Todd Hayes will probably get the nod.

Hayes leaves Bowens with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Bowens shoots in for a takedown but Hayes shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Bowens really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Hayes moves to clinch but Bowens breaks away
and Bowens finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Hayes throws a sloppy body shot
and Bowens counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Todd Hayes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fight stays on the outside here - Hayes looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Hayes tries to clinch up.
Bowens throws a sloppy head kick and Hayes moves out of range easily.

Bowens moves into range and clinches up with Hayes.
Hayes wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Hayes landing knees to the head.

Bowens fails to pull guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Bowens. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hayes tightens his grip and picks Bowens up, before dumping him to the ground. Bowens manages to land in guard.

Bowens has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hayes can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Bowens is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Bowens keeping moving, preventing Hayes from controlling successfully.
Hayes must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hayes prevents Bowens from getting back to his feet.

Bowens has his foot on Hayes's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hayes works his way back into a safe position though.

Hayes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bowens. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Bowens is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Hayes frees his head nicely. Oh but Bowens has switched to an armbar! Hayes is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
