Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ian Pearse! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jay Cutler! The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Tarja Halkonen and Arvi Lind.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cutler throws a mid kick that lands with a slap. Cutler connects with an inside leg kick. Pearse rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Cutler counters with a nice uppercut. Pearse looking for a takedown here - he's got it. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Pearse forces his way into half guard. Pearse prevents Cutler from improving his position. Pearse is pressing down on Cutler's thigh, looking to free his foot. Cutler is holding on for now. Pearse is trying to work for a kimura but Cutler is defending well.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Cutler is looking to improve his position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cutler has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Pearse is working away from the top position though. Pearse prevents Cutler from improving his position. Pearse is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Pearse frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Pearse has control of Cutler's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Cutler regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Pearse looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pearse moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Cutler has worked his arm free - good work by Cutler!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Pearse working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Pearse advances to full mount. Pearse is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Cutler is in real trouble.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cutler wants to get back to his feet. Pearse is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Cutler has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Cutler has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke. Pearse is working the back position looking for the choke. Oh, he's slid into an armbar! Beautiful transition and Cutler taps out! Fantastic Jiu Jitsu from Pearse.
