Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rick Peters! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tyson Griffith! The judges for this bout are Josh West, Chris Saunders and Colin Fray.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Peters scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction. Griffith misses with a takedown attempt - Peters sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Peters is trying hard to land a takedown here. Griffith sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Peters tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Griffith manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Griffith avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Peters with a poor takedown and Griffith counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Griffith tries to free his leg and advance position but Peters is retaining full guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Peters striking off his back but it's not causing Griffith any problems. Griffith wants to pass the guard but Peters is keeping the position. That's two minutes gone in the round. Peters tries to score a power double leg takedown but Griffith sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Peters somewhat. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rick Peters. That's going to take a lot out of him. Griffith shoots for a double leg takedown but Peters sprawls well. He's pushed Griffith's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Griffith checks a leg kick. Griffith stuffs the takedown attempt from Peters. Peters gets slowly back to his feet. Griffith forces Peters back against the cage and clinches. Peters is trying to break free. Peters has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Griffith avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Griffith's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Peters gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Griffith counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Griffith. Griffith jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Peters walks away with a smile on his face. Griffith gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Griffith clinches. Griffith wants to take the fight to the mat but Peters manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Griffith is struggling to control the position. Griffith breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Peters slows the pace down in half guard. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Griffith trying to control but Peters postures up.

Peters misses with a takedown attempt and Griffith counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Griffith. Griffith gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Griffith drives through and clinches with Peters against the cage.
Peters lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage. Both fighters working to control the clinch. Griffith escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Griffith moves into the clinch. Griffith taking a breather. Griffith stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
That's one minute gone in the round. Peters decides to pull guard. Griffith looking to sit in guard and control but Peters gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Peters not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Peters gets to his feet. Griffith looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Griffith tries to clinch but Peters moves out of range. Griffith moves into range and clinches up with Peters. Peters wants to take the fight to the mat but Griffith manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rick Peters. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Peters is looking to control Griffith's arms but Griffith gets an underhook and turns him. Now Peters has his back to the cage. Griffith breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Peters throws a solid leg kick but Griffith takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Peters. Griffith tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Peters tries to close the distance and clinch but Griffith swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Peters tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Griffith tries to clinch up but Peters circles away and keeps his distance. Peters misses with the combination.

Peters lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Griffith circles away quickly and effectively. Griffith shoots in for a takedown but Peters shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Griffith is breathing heavily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Griffith stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Griffith wants it to stay on the feet. Griffith shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Peters defends it nicely. Griffith shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Peters sprawls well. Peters wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Griffith gets slowly back to his feet. Griffith walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Peters looks for the body kick but Griffith saw that one coming. Peters fails in his attempt to clinch. Peters looks to land a combination. Griffith sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Peters shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Griffith pinned against the cage. Griffith gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Peters dodges the punch combination from Griffith.

Peters wants to clinch. Peters punishes Griffith's body with a nice straight punch. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Griffith has closed the distance and engaged Peters in a clinch.

A close second round but Tyson Griffith will probably get the nod - 10:9. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
Peters shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Griffith pinned against the cage. Griffith gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Peters pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Peters cracks Griffith with a right hand to the side of the head. Griffith shoots in for a double leg but Peters sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. No luck with that takedown attempt from Peters. Griffith tries to clinch there but Peters circles away.
Peters misses the shot to the body. Peters will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rick Peters. That's going to take a lot out of him. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Peters throws a body punch but Griffith moves out of range. Peters shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Griffith as he jumps to the side.
That's one minute gone in the round. Griffith fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Peters, pushing him back against the cage. Peters goes for a takedown attempt but Griffith pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Peters fails with a takedown attempt. Griffith misses with a jab, cross combination.
Peters leaves Griffith with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Some wild striking there from Peters.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Griffith fails in his attempt to clinch. Griffith fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Griffith closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Griffith tries for a takedown but Peters manages to get underhooks.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors. Peters wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Griffith has him pressed against the cage. Peters managing to block the knees to the body from Griffith.
Griffith pulls guard effortlessly. Griffith being controlled here, momentarily. Griffith controlling Peters's posture. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Griffith can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Griffith is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Griffith preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Griffith is adopting a defensive guard.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Tyson Griffith. Griffith wants to slow Peters down by chopping away at his legs.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Griffith dives in and grabs Peters's left leg, looking for a takedown. Peters pushes down on Griffith's head and hops out. Griffith stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Griffith wants it to stay on the feet. Peters tries to clinch up but Griffith circles away and keeps his distance. Griffith misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Peters shoots for a takedown but Griffith saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Griffith scores with a takedown into Peters's guard. Peters is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Griffith defends well. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Griffith postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Peters is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Griffith, into his guard.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Tyson Griffith. I've got Griffith winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
