The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Deftone tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Fortuna was well out of range. Poor timing from Deftone.
Fortuna throws a right hand that Deftone ducks under and follows up with a left that Deftone also avoids with ease.

Deftone throws a right and a left that both miss.
Deftone misses with a double jab.
Fortuna throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Fortuna slips a jab and a cross from Deftone.
Sloppy strikes from Fortuna. Those never looked like landing.

Fortuna clinches with his opponent.

Fortuna escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Fortuna avoids a punch combination nicely.
Fortuna throws out a loose jab but Deftone uses good head movement to avoid it.

Fortuna uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Deftone.
Fortuna darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

It looks like Deadguy Deftone has been cut.

Deftone defending well as Fortuna loads up on a big left hand.

Fortuna looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Deftone throws a right and a left that both miss.
Deftone throws a nice looking combination but Fortuna bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Deadguy Deftone is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Fortuna throws a big overhand right that connects, sending Deftone tumbling to the canvas!

Deadguy Deftone's cut is getting worse.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Fortuna is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Deftone is looking to stand up but Fortuna isn't so interested in that idea.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Deftone is breathing heavily.
Fortuna looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Fortuna drops back looking for a leg! Deftone is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Deftone manages to kick Fortuna off! Fortuna jumps back into Deftone's guard.

Fortuna not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Fortuna advances to half guard.

Fortuna wants to work for an arm triangle but Deftone is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Fortuna is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Deftone has managed to free his arm - good work.

Deftone knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Fortuna on the ground.
