Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Takahiro Akiyoshi! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jack Johnson! The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Shirou Masuda and Tatsuya Matsuyama.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnson pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Akiyoshi shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Johnson defends it nicely. Johnson throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Akiyoshi misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Horrible takedown by Akiyoshi or perhaps it was just good defense by Johnson which made him look bad. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Takahiro Akiyoshi. That's going to take a lot out of him. Johnson is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Akiyoshi. Johnson throws a shot from downtown. Akiyoshi moves away and avoids it. Johnson misses with a looping left. Johnson lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Akiyoshi at a distance.
No luck for Akiyoshi with that takedown attempt. Johnson slaps away a takedown attempt from Akiyoshi, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Akiyoshi gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Johnson fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Akiyoshi manages to avoid it. Akiyoshi fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Jack Johnson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Akiyoshi fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Johnson sprawls well initially but Akiyoshi persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Akiyoshi wants to control but Johnson is keeping him busy. Akiyoshi not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Akiyoshi not landing any meaningful shots this time. Johnson wants to control but Akiyoshi is keeping busy and won't allow it. Akiyoshi moves nicely into side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The referee asks Akiyoshi politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Akiyoshi prefers to stall for the moment though. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Akiyoshi scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Johnson to see if he's OK. Johnson is looking to reverse the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Johnson is trying to control Akiyoshi's posture but Akiyoshi avoids it. Akiyoshi has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Akiyoshi is chipping away with strikes.
Akiyoshi scores with punches from side control. Akiyoshi controlling from side mount. Akiyoshi misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Akiyoshi working the body and head with strikes. Johnson parries the strikes from Akiyoshi easily there. Akiyoshi is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Johnson to escape.
Akiyoshi throwing strikes but Johnson manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control! Johnson misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Johnson working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Akiyoshi manages to work his way to half guard, despite Johnson's best efforts. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Akiyoshi manages to get to full guard.
Akiyoshi pushes Johnson off and gets back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Johnson misses with a left hand and Akiyoshi counters with a single leg into guard. Johnson didn't expect that. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Akiyoshi trying to control the position from guard on top but Johnson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Akiyoshi throws a strike but Johnson rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Akiyoshi looking to control.
Akiyoshi is pulling down on Johnson's head. It's preventing any offense from Johnson, at least for the moment. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Takahiro Akiyoshi just wasn't active enough. A jab from Johnson does it's job there. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Takahiro Akiyoshi dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

and Akiyoshi counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Akiyoshi. Akiyoshi throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Akiyoshi sitting in guard, not really doing much. Akiyoshi throws a big elbow that misses. Akiyoshi avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Akiyoshi connects with a couple of short punches. Akiyoshi trying to control the position from guard on top but Johnson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Johnson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Akiyoshi is one step ahead there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Akiyoshi scoring with punches to the head and body. Akiyoshi not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Akiyoshi won't allow Johnson to sweep him here. Johnson lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Akiyoshi! Akiyoshi is working to get back to half guard.
Akiyoshi sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Akiyoshi gets full guard. Akiyoshi tries to land a sweep but no joy. Johnson trying to control but Akiyoshi is working from the bottom. Akiyoshi manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
