The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Robert Twigg and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No joy there for Mercier, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Mercier checks a low kick from Karelin.
Karelin ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Mercier moves away.
Mercier misses with a body kick.
A big left from Mercier misses.
Mercier tries to bum rush Karelin with a series of wild strikes but Karelin uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Mercier takes a swing at Karelin's ribcage but misses.
Karelin throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Mercier was covering up waiting for the punch and Karelin finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mercier has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Karelin missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Karelin avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mercier is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Karelin rolls with it to try and escape but Mercier cranks on the arm and Karelin is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
