Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jack Kowalski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Devon Gabriel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jack Kowalski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Devon Gabriel!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Johanna Lukiainen and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gabriel shoots in but Kowalski avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Gabriel instigates a clinch.
Kowalski is looking for a takedown.
Gabriel prevents a takedown attempt there.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Gabriel goes for a takedown in the clinch but Kowalski prevents it.
Gabriel lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

Kowalski drops down looking for an ankle pick but Gabriel pulls his leg out and moves away.

Gabriel tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kowalski sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Gabriel somewhat.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Gabriel has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kowalski can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Jack Kowalski just wasn't active enough.

Gabriel shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Kowalski manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.


Gabriel slaps away a takedown attempt from Kowalski, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Gabriel tries to clinch up but Kowalski circles away and keeps his distance.

Gabriel has closed the distance and engaged Kowalski in a clinch.
Kowalski is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Gabriel goes for a takedown attempt but Kowalski pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Gabriel stuffs the takedown.

Kowalski closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Gabriel is looking for a sweep.
Gabriel takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Gabriel is not content to let Kowalski control the position.

Kowalski tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Gabriel manages to work his way to half guard, despite Kowalski's best efforts.

Gabriel is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Kowalski pulls his head out easily.
Kowalski wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gabriel keeps working.
Kowalski is just content to waste time from the top position. Gabriel takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Gabriel is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Kowalski is aware though and is defending well.

Kowalski is working Gabriel over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Kowalski is pushing down on Gabriel's leg trying to pass to half guard. Gabriel is fighting to maintain full guard but Kowalski has managed to sneak the leg through.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kowalski takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Gabriel has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kowalski is working away from the top position though.

Kowalski tries to pass the half guard into mount. Gabriel knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gabriel accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Kowalski on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Kowalski tries to get out of the position.

Kowalski tries to lock up and control but Gabriel gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Gabriel has his opponent pinned against the ropes, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Kowalski's face.
The referee warns Kowalski that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Kowalski is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

We're going to have a standup here because Jack Kowalski wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Gabriel shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kowalski as he jumps to the side.
Kowalski leaves Gabriel with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Kowalski bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Gabriel can't do much from the bottom here.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kowalski, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, Jack Kowalski was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
