Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Leandro Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ted Grant (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alves comes to the cage accompanied by Thin Lizzy - Angel of Death. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ted Grant!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Elvis Blanc and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Grant tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Grant ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Grant misses with a wild combination.
Ted Grant seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Alves dips to his left and cracks Grant with an uppercut!
A head kick misses from Grant.
Grant fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Alves is out of range.
Grant misses with a looping right.
Alves throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Alves shoots in looking for a takedown. Grant tries to sprawl out of it but Alves keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Grant manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Alves fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Grant manages to avoid it.
Alves uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Grant.
Alves takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Grant drops Alves with a beautiful combination! Alves stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Grant is looking for the KO!


It looks like Leandro Alves has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Grant throws a solid leg kick but Alves takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Grant.

Ted Grant is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Alves throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Grant avoids the body shot from Alves.
Alves thows a body shot but no joy.

Grant uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Alves.
Alves fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Grant manages to avoid it.
A combination from Grant does no damage.
Alves scores with a jab to the body.
Grant swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Alves closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Grant tries to buck Alves off but Alves is having none of it.

Alves goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Grant rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Alves's guard! Nice work there by Grant!

Alves is looking for a triangle but Grant pushes his legs off easily.

Grant stands up and waves to Alves to follow him.
Alves shoots in for a double leg but Grant sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Alves closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Grant did well to prevent Alves getting side control.
Alves tries to pass the half guard into mount. Grant knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Alves is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Grant has managed to free his arm - good work.

Alves seems to be working for a kimura but Grant defends the submission attempt.

Alves is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Alves looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Alves seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Grant does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Grant gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Alves to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Alves trying to control the position from guard on top but Grant is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Alves is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Grant keeping moving, preventing Alves from controlling successfully.
Alves is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Grant is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Leandro Alves wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Grant loads up on a big right hand but Alves slips the punch.
Alves is looking to wear down Grant with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Alves misses with a wild body shot.
Grant throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Ted Grant seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Alves tests Grant's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Grant missing with a left hand there. Alves was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Grant tries to bum rush Alves with a series of wild strikes but Alves uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Alves ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Alves throws a body punch but Grant moves out of range.
Grant on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Grant misses with a double jab
and Grant takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Grant throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Alves counters with a stiff right hand.
Grant stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Alves.
A swing and a miss from Alves.
Grant on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Grant misses with a double jab
and Alves counters with a left to the body.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A cross from Grant lands.

Alves drives through with a takedown into guard.
Alves trying to control the position from guard on top but Grant is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Alves slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Alves tries to advance to mount but can't.
Grant struggling a bit here.
Grant manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Alves is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Grant defends it well.
Alves is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Grant works his way to full guard. Good work.
Alves wants to pass the guard but Grant is keeping the position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

and Alves counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Alves just misses with a punch to the body.
Alves displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.

Grant lands a left and a right that send Alves crashing to the mat, dazed. Grant thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


Alves is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
A looping hook to the body misses from Alves. Grant does a little dance to reset his feet.
Oh Alves is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Grant takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Grant fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Grant ducks down and throws a big overhand right - it lands flush on the jaw, knocking Alves out cold! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:42 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Ted Grant!
Ted Grant is the new welterweight champion!
Ted Grant really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Milwaukee's Best 160 SALE $150 logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
