Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John Simons III! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mirko Cro Crap! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Matheus Silva and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Simons III closes the distance and clinches up with Cro Crap, looking for a takedown. Simons III pushes Cro Crap against the cage but Cro Crap circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Mirko Cro Crap seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Cro Crap goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Simons III moves into the clinch successfully.

Simons III has hold of one of Cro Crap's legs. Cro Crap is fighting the takedown attempt but Simons III gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. Simons III trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Cro Crap keeping moving, preventing Simons III from controlling successfully. Cro Crap is looking to stand back up but Simons III counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Cro Crap. Simons III wants to control for a moment but Cro Crap uses the opportunity to move back to half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Simons III is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Cro Crap's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Cro Crap's back! Cro Crap just trying to survive but Simons III is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish. Cro Crap showing good submission defense here.
Simons III is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Cro Crap has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Simons III looking to break Cro Crap's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Cro Crap remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Simons III will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke! Simons III is breathing heavily. Simons III avoiding Cro Crap 's attempts to control his hands. Simons III is trying to stick to Cro Crap's back but Cro Crap is turning into Simons III. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Simons III's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Cro Crap.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Simons III is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Cro Crap wants to get back to his feet.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Simons III frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Cro Crap really wants to buck Simons III off and get back to his feet. Cro Crap tries to hold on but Simons III postures up. Simons III seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Cro Crap is holding on tight.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Simons III has a closed guard, preventing Cro Crap from standing up. Simons III is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Simons III looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Cro Crap trying to stand up but can't free himself from Simons III's guard. Cro Crap really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Simons III. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Simons III is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Cro Crap gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Cro Crap throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Simons III. Cro Crap throws a series of punches but Simons III moves out of range. Cro Crap stuffs the takedown attempt from Simons III. Simons III gets slowly back to his feet. Simons III closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Cro Crap has picked Simons III up - he's going for a ride! Cro Crap dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Simons III blocking the ground and pound attempt from Cro Crap. Simons III looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Simons III looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Cro Crap uses his free foot to push down on Simons III's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Simons III. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Simons III changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Cro Crap looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Cro Crap gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Simons III mounts Cro Crap! Really nice guard pass there! Simons III is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Cro Crap has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Cro Crap! Simons III looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Cro Crap passes into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Simons III looking for submissions off his back. Cro Crap postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Simons III to stand up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Simons III scores with a takedown into Cro Crap's guard. Simons III looking to pass the guard. Simons III is working hard here to advance position. Simons III passes into half guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Simons III wants to work for an arm triangle but Cro Crap is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Simons III shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Cro Crap prevents Simons III from taking his back. Simons III working for a submission but Cro Crap is keeping him at bay.

Simons III jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Cro Crap manages to avoid the submission attempt. Simons III is looking to take a break and control but Cro Crap is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Simons III has hold of Cro Crap's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Cro Crap seems comfortable defending it but Simons III has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Cro Crap is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Cro Crap is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Simons III couldn't care less - he's delighted!
