Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Papov Taaka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lance Shorey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lance Shorey is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Papov Taaka! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lance Shorey! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Mauricio Rocha and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Taaka checks a leg kick nicely. Taaka tries to sprawl but Shorey drives through with a takedown into half guard. Shorey wants to stand up but Taaka is controlling the position.
Shorey wants to take a breather but Taaka is having none of it. Shorey is thwarting Taaka's attempts to control the position. Taaka is looking to improve his position.
Taaka actively working from the bottom here. Taaka avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Shorey. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Taaka is trying to get back to full guard. Taaka trying to hold on to Shorey's head to control him but Shorey postures up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Taaka is concentrating on defense, preventing Shorey from advancing position. Shorey is trying to control. Taaka wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Taaka trying to control but Shorey postures up.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Shorey throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Taaka was covering up waiting for the punch and Shorey finishes the takedown easily into guard. Shorey passes easily into side control. Nice work. Taaka tries to control but Shorey manages to take his back. Taaka just trying to survive but Shorey is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish. You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

Taaka trying to control but not successfully. Shorey is persistently looking for the submission but Taaka is defending it well.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Taaka rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Taaka is trying to maintain the position but Shorey is very close to passing his half guard. Shorey content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shorey wants to lay and pray for a moment but Taaka keeps working. Shorey is taking a breather. Taaka says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Lance Shorey hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Shorey takes the fight into the clinch. Shorey has had enough of the clinch but Taaka keeps him there for the moment. Shorey pulls guard. Taaka chips away with some ground and pound.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Taaka pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Shorey is keeping the position for now. Shorey not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Taaka trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Lance Shorey has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Taaka shoots in for a double leg but Shorey sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Shorey feints and as Taaka raises his hands in defense, Shorey changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Taaka seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Taaka doesn't succeed with the takedown and Shorey counters with a left to the body. Shorey drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Shorey moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now. Taaka is looking to regain half guard here but Shorey keeps moving and retains side control. Shorey tries to stand but Taaka is controlling his head. Taaka tries to improve position but can't. Shorey lands a few punches from side control.

Shorey is looking to take a break and control but Taaka is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Shorey decides to stand back up. Shorey drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Taaka looking to control.

Shorey throws a big elbow that misses. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Taaka is controlling Shorey's posture.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Lance Shorey wasn't active enough on the ground. Shorey throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Shorey works his way back into a safe position though. Taaka has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Taaka can't keep his opponent in guard - Shorey advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Shorey wants to control but Taaka is keeping him busy. Taaka is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Shorey pulls his head out easily. Shorey uses his free foot to push down on Taaka's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Taaka.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shorey looking to control and managing it successfully. Taaka really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Taaka is squirming around, avoiding Shorey's attempts to control the action. Shorey controlling from mount. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Shorey wants to control the pace but Taaka is squirming around nicely. Taaka is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Lance Shorey showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Shorey must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Shorey would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Taaka is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Shorey is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Shorey looking to control but Taaka is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Shorey landing strikes from the mount.
And that's the end of the fight! Lance Shorey comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Shorey has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
