Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Monkey D Luffy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shekan Weeonu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shekan Weeonu has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Monkey D Luffy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Shekan Weeonu!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Hugh Johnson and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Luffy's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Weeonu connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Luffy scrambles back to his feet.

Weeonu clinches up against the cage.
Weeonu is pressed up against the cage. Luffy has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Weeonu down to the mat. Weeonu avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Weeonu shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Weeonu was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Luffy bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Luffy shoots in for a takedown but Weeonu shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Luffy shoots in looking for a takedown. Weeonu tries to sprawl out of it but Luffy keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Weeonu manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Monkey D Luffy. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Luffy takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Luffy shoots in for a takedown but Weeonu shows good takedown defense.

Luffy shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Weeonu pinned against the cage. Weeonu gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Luffy not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Weeonu can do anything to dispel that myth.
Luffy stops Weeonu from getting back to his feet.

Luffy wants to lay and pray for a moment but Weeonu keeps working.

Weeonu tries to kick Luffy off in order to stand up. Luffy Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Luffy tries to advance to mount but can't.
Weeonu tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Luffy wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Weeonu is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Luffy has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Luffy shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Weeonu but Weeonu pushes him off and we're back to square one.

No joy there for Weeonu, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Luffy moves to clinch but Weeonu breaks away
and Weeonu makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Weeonu lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Weeonu lands with a nice combination. Luffy backs away looking to recover.

and Weeonu counters with a three punch combo that has Luffy backing up. Luffy nods at Weeonu to acknowledge the strikes.

Weeonu fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

and Luffy holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Weeonu ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Weeonu no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

We're going to have a standup here because Monkey D Luffy wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Shekan Weeonu wasn't active enough on the ground.
Weeonu throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Weeonu dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Donk. Weeonu catches Luffy right on the button with a cross.
Weeonu will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Shekan Weeonu is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well Weeonu has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
