The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mityou misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Courchesne closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. The ground and pound from Courchesne seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Mityou tries to bench press Courchesne off him but Courchesne keeps the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mityou manages to work his way to half guard, despite Courchesne's best efforts. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Courchesne slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Courchesne really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mityou . If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Courchesne postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Mityou is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Courchesne must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Courchesne throwing strikes but missing. Mityou slaps away a takedown attempt from Courchesne, before circling back to the center of the mat. Courchesne shoots in but Mityou avoids the takedown attempt easily.
