PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ricky Dray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Stevens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dray comes to the cage accompanied by Champion. Ricky Dray had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ricky Dray!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Stevens!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, George Francis and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dray slips a jab and a cross from Stevens.
Stevens fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Dray manages to avoid it.
Stevens throws a right hand that misses

and Dray counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Dray looking to pass the guard.
Stevens wants to stand and escape but Dray is having none of it.

Dray is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Stevens is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Stevens has escaped and now he's on top!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stevens has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Dray is proving hard to escape from.
Stevens throws a big right hand that misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Stevens trying to control but Dray is working from the bottom.
Stevens throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Dray works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Stevens is looking to stand up but Dray won't let him.

Stevens got a little sloppy there for a moment and Dray has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Stevens has managed to get both his arms back between Dray's legs - danger averted.
Stevens is working Dray over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Stevens wants to get up but he can't break Dray's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Dray is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Stevens is aware though and is defending well.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Stevens accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Stevens throws a big right hand that misses.
Stevens throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Dray works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Stevens would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Stevens throws a strike but Dray rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Dray drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Stevens manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Dray has Stevens in his guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dray keeping moving, preventing Stevens from controlling successfully.
Stevens has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Dray is proving hard to escape from.
Stevens wants to control from the top but Dray keeps moving.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Stevens missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Stevens lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Stevens postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Stevens lands a couple of elbows.
Stevens looking to pass the guard.
Stevens wanted to stand there but Dray had control of the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Stevens wants to stand and escape but instead Dray has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Stevens dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Stevens looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Dray fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Stevens misses the shot to the body.
Stevens fails to land with a series of punches.
Dray's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Stevens connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Dray scrambles back to his feet.
Mike Stevens seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Stevens ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Some wild striking there from Stevens.
Stevens dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Dray walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Stevens scores with a crisp jab that stopped Dray in his tracks.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A nice inside leg kick there by Stevens. That's going to slow Dray down.
A cross from Stevens lands.
Stevens tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Dray swivels and escapes.
Nice cross by Stevens.
A head kick misses from Stevens.
Stevens works the jab nicely.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Stevens lands a big head kick that sends Dray tumbling to the mat! Stevens takes a step backwards and waves Dray back to his feet - he wants the finish!


Dray is rocked!


It looks like Ricky Dray has been cut.
Stevens throws an overhand right that has Dray reeling! Stevens follows up with more punches and Dray is out cold! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Mike Stevens!
Our winner, Mike Stevens, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
