Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
15 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Micah Magnum! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
21 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Pete Wentz! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Trevor Gratis and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Wentz checks a leg kick. Magnum throws a right and a left that both miss. Wentz stuns Magnum with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Wentz tries to sprawl but Magnum drives through with a takedown into half guard. Wentz is controlling Magnum's trapped leg to prevent Magnum from advancing to side control. Magnum performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Wentz has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Magnum is working away from the top position though. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Wentz tries to roll over but Magnum keeps him under control. Magnum is taking a breather. Wentz says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Micah Magnum has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Magnum will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Wentz throws out a leg kick but Magnum moves out of range and Wentz only half commits. Magnum shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Wentz as he jumps to the side. Magnum avoids a kick to the body.
Magnum shoots in and drives through. Wentz sprawls well. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Micah Magnum. That's going to take a lot out of him. Magnum shoots in looking for a takedown. Wentz tries to sprawl out of it but Magnum keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Wentz manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Magnum doesn't succeed with the takedown and Wentz counters with a low kick, right behind Magnum 's knee. Magnum misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Wentz.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Wentz misses with a series of wild punches.
Magnum darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Wentz is looking to control Magnum's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Wentz avoid being mounted? Magnum prevents Wentz from improving his position. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Magnum is looking to stall here but Wentz recovers full guard. Magnum is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Magnum pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Wentz is keeping the position for now. Wentz wants to sweep but no luck. Magnum trying to control the position from guard on top but Wentz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Magnum has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Micah Magnum just wasn't active enough. Magnum dives in and grabs Wentz's left leg, looking for a takedown. Wentz pushes down on Magnum's head and hops out. Wentz checks the leg kick nicely there.

Magnum fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Magnum manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Wentz on his heels. He'll look to pass Wentz's guard now, I'm sure. Magnum trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Wentz is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Magnum is aware though and is defending well. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Magnum wants to control from the top but Wentz keeps moving. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Wentz has Magnum pulled in close to control his posture. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Micah Magnum dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
The fighters circling - Magnum throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Wentz throws a leg kick which misses Magnum's front leg but catches the back leg as Magnum tries to avoid it. Magnum looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Wentz! Magnum tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Wentz tries to hold on but Magnum postures up. Wentz can't escape the position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Wentz is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Magnum is looking to control Wentz's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Magnum avoid being mounted? That was a close second round but I would say that Micah Magnum will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Magnum fails with the takedown and Wentz counters with a nice body shot. Magnum misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Wentz connects with a body shot that sends Magnum's belly button to the back. Magnum shoots in but no luck this time. Magnum shoots and misses and Wentz counters with a nice low kick that buckles Magnum's knee momentarily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wentz thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Magnum if he has to take too many more of those.
A solid body kick from Wentz. Magnum is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight. The crowd cheers as Wentz lands an impressive looking overhand right. Magnum doesn't seem phased though. Wentz throws a leg kick which misses Magnum's front leg but catches the back leg as Magnum tries to avoid it. Wentz tests Magnum's chin there with a solid looking shot. and Wentz counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Wentz not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Wentz trying to control the pace. Wentz landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wentz thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Magnum's head. Magnum blocking the ground and pound attempt from Wentz. It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Wentz scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Magnum doesn't seem bothered though. Wentz goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Magnum changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Wentz tries to avoid it but Magnum manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Wentz to the ground. Wentz escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Wentz dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Wentz is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Magnum rather than just go for the knockout. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Wentz slips a straight right by Magnum. Wentz lands a nice looking body kick. This has been an exciting period of action! Magnum throws a half hearted mid kick. Magnum tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Wentz was well out of range. Poor timing from Magnum. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Pete Wentz really dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Magnum has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Wentz finds it's way round the side to connect with Magnum's head. Wentz works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Pete Wentz seems to be getting the better of the standup. Magnum shoots in looking for a takedown. Wentz tries to sprawl out of it but Magnum keeps driving through. Wentz comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Wentz looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. An inside leg kick lands from Wentz. Ouch! a nice leg kick from Magnum, right into the meat.
Magnum closes this distance looking for a takedown but Wentz circles away. Wentz avoids a low kick by using good footwork. Wentz throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena. Magnum defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Wentz. It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over. Wentz lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. This has been an exciting period of action! Magnum takes a swing at Wentz's ribcage but misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Magnum throws a push kick but Wentz slaps the foot to one side. Magnum blocks the body kick.

Wentz moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Magnum fails to land the takedown. Magnum steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Wentz. That one must have hurt. Wentz feints and then cracks Magnum's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Magnum down. No luck with that takedown attempt from Magnum. Wentz paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Excellent takedown into side control there by Magnum. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Wentz sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Magnum keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

And that's the end of the fight! Pete Wentz comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Wentz has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today.
