Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shawn Nycz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Shawn Nycz!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Roosa Järviläinen and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nycz looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Johnson is fending him off so far but Nycz persists. Nope, Johnson circles away and we're back to standing.

Nycz decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Nycz perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Nycz sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Johnson defending well though.
Nycz working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Johnson's thigh. Johnson counters though and makes it back to full guard.

Nycz wants to get up but he can't break Johnson's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Johnson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Nycz throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Johnson works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Johnson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Johnson is working an open guard so Nycz takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Nycz decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Johnson shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Nycz counters with a shoot takedown. Johnson fights it but they end up in guard.
Johnson wants to stand but Nycz is controlling the position.

Nycz decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Johnson, up you get!
Nycz misses with a body kick.
Johnson fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Johnson looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Johnson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Nycz swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Johnson closes this distance looking for a takedown but Nycz circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Johnson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A lazy body kick from Johnson

and Nycz counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Nycz decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Johnson trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Nycz seems to be working for a kimura but Johnson defends the submission attempt.
Johnson is refusing to be controlled, as Nycz sits in half guard.
Nycz tries to pass to full mount but Johnson defends it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Nycz is taking a breather. Johnson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Nycz works his foot free and advances to mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nycz fails to move to back control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shawn Nycz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Johnson fails with the takedown

and Nycz counters with a nice double leg into side control. Johnson won't be happy with that.
Nycz passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Johnson!
You get the feeling that Johnson really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Johnson is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

Nycz looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Nycz stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Nycz throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Johnson with a poor takedown

and Nycz counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Johnson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Nycz is looking to work some ground and pound but Johnson has wrist control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nycz trying to control the position from guard on top but Johnson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Johnson is looking to stand up but Nycz isn't so interested in that idea.

Nyczis looking to pass into half guard but Johnson pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Johnson is in guard.

Johnson decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Johnson misses with a wild combination.
Nycz should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Nycz closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Nycz is looking to advance position but Johnson won't allow it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Nycz is working for a kimura but Johnson is defending it quite comfortably.
Nycz stops Johnson from getting back to his feet.
Paul Johnson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Shawn Nycz comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Nycz has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
