Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tony Goldman! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Anthony Mael! The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Colin Fray and Micheangelo Fripello.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Goldman drives through with a takedown into guard. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Mael wants to sweep here but Goldman controlling him for the moment. Goldman drops back looking for a leg! Mael is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Mael manages to kick Goldman off! Goldman jumps back into Mael's guard. Goldman loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Mael working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Goldman. Goldman trying to move into half guard but instead Mael has managed to sweep! Mael seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Mael trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Goldman wants to sweep but no luck. Mael trying to control but Goldman is working from the bottom. Mael works a leg free and moves into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mael passes to full mount! Mael can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Goldman is looking to escape. Mael throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Mael is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Goldman has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Goldman is squirming around, avoiding Mael's attempts to control the action. Mael is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mael wants to finish this one by submission but Goldman is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Mael. Mael wants to control the pace but Goldman is squirming around nicely. Goldman tries to lock up and control but Mael gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Goldman slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Goldman is looking to improve his position.
Mael is keen to just control but Goldman is a slippery customer. Mael wants to work for an arm triangle but Goldman is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mael missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Goldman controlling the position well. Goldman works his way to full guard. Good work. Mael controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Mael throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Goldman works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Mael stopping the sweep attempt from Goldman. Mael looking to pass the guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Goldman controls Mael momentarily but Mael frees himself. Mael wants to pass the guard but Goldman is keeping the position. Goldman preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Mael stands and throws Goldman's legs to the side, diving into side control. Goldman is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Mael off and has taken his back! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Anthony Mael dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Mael closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Goldman quickly recovers to half guard. Mael looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Goldman is looking to control Mael's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Goldman avoid being mounted? Goldman is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control. Goldman is looking for a sweep. Mael is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Mael uses his free foot to push down on Goldman's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Goldman. Mael jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Goldman is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Goldman and Mael has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Mael tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mael has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
That's one minute gone in the round. Mael wants to take a breather but Goldman manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Mael. Mael postures up.
Anthony Mael has got the better of the ground game so far. Goldman working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mael doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mael manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Mael wants to pass the guard but Goldman is keeping the position. Mael is looking to advance position but Goldman has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Goldman jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Mael manages to avoid the submission attempt. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mael is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Goldman wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Mael, who protects the arm well. Mael manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Goldman is looking for a kimura but Mael is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Goldman to get the leverage.
