Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Carlos Quintana! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Billy Sampson! The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Jorge Garcia and Steve Montenegro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sampson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Quintana tries to get back to half guard but can't. Quintana tries to hold on but Sampson pushes him away. Quintana is desperately trying to improve his position but Sampson has a good base and remains in mount. Quintana is squirming around, avoiding Sampson's attempts to control the action. Sampson unloads with some shots from mount but Quintana bucks and avoids them well.
Quintana takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Sampson connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Quintana is wriggling around trying to escape.
Sampson lands a nice shot to the head.
It looks like Carlos Quintana has been cut. Quintana holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Sampson tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Quintana sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Quintana is trying to get back to full guard. Quintana controlling the position well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sampson sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Quintana defending well though. Sampson thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Quintana avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Sampson. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sampson is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Quintana reverses the position - he's now on top in Sampson's guard. Sampson controlling the position. Sampson is looking to sweep but instead, Quintana has passed into half guard.
Sampson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Quintana is working away from the top position though. Sampson is trying to get back to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Quintana in particular looking to stall. Sampson wants to control but Quintana is keeping busy and won't allow it. Quintana trying to pass the guard but Sampson defending well.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Sampson checks the leg kick nicely there.
Carlos Quintana is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Sampson punishes Quintana's body with a nice straight punch. This has been an exciting period of action! Quintana cracks a nice hook into Sampson's ribs. Sampson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Quintana avoids it really well and circles away. A head kick misses from Quintana.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Sampson is defended easily by Quintana. A left lands for Sampson.
Carlos Quintana's cut is getting worse. Sampson with a lazy takedown attempt and Quintana counters with a slapping leg kick. Carlos Quintana has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Billy Sampson. Quintana has closed the distance and engaged Sampson in a clinch.
Quintana lands with a light punch inside. Nice elbow from Quintana. Quintana blocks an uppercut.
Quintana lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Sampson backwards. Quintana gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
It looks like Billy Sampson has been cut. Quintana breaks from the clinch.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Sampson rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Quintana counters with a good low kick that Sampson was not able to check. Quintana pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Sampson connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Quintana connects with an inside leg kick. Quintana lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt. Quintana lands with a thumping leg kick.

and Quintana counters with a right hand to the body. Quintana scoring well with a low kick there.
Quintana lands a nice looking kick to the body. Sampson takes a step back to recover. Sampson takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Quintana moves into range and connects with a jab. Quintana cracks Sampson with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Sampson looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Quintana finish him?
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Carlos Quintana dominated that round. Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval. That's time! Back to the action!
Quintana throws a nice inside leg kick. Quintana throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Quintana cracks the inside of Sampson's front leg. Quintana fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Sampson has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Sampson's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down. Quintana throws an uppercut from hell that sends Sampson clean off his feet! He's out cold! Quintana stands back and admires his work as he thinks about that KO of the night award that is surely being wrapped up for him back stage.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:25 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Carlos Quintana! Carlos Quintana retains his heavyweight title! After the big win, Carlos Quintana made sure to do all the important stuff like thanking his sponsors FinnSubs and telling the interviewer how much he loves him.
