PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Blake Axe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Danny Greene (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Axe comes to the cage accompanied by For Whom the Bell Tolls. Danny Greene told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Blake Axe! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Danny Greene! The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Summer Carpenter and Steve Erwin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Axe throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Axe will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Axe shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Greene napping and manages to drive through into side control! Axe throws a strike aimed at the side of Greene's head but Greene avoids it well. Axe trying to control the position but Greene is working away. Axe is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Greene's shoulder. That is not cool. Axe trying to control the action but Greene is working from the bottom. Axe works to advance to full mount. Greene defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
That's one minute gone in the round. Axe cracks Greene with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Greene blocking the ground and pound. Axe throwing shots from mount but they're not landing. Greene blocking the ground and pound. Greene holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Axe tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Axe unloads with some shots from mount but Greene bucks and avoids them well.
Axe has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Axe lands a nice shot to the head. Axe jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Greene manages to avoid the submission attempt. Axe trying to control the action but Greene is working from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Axe working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Greene is not content to let Axe control the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Axe looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Axe is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Greene has escaped the position, nice work there. Axe throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sloppy strikes there by Axe. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Greene can do anything to dispel that myth. Axe remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Greene parries the strikes from Axe easily there. Axe is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Greene to escape.
Axe tries for a kimura but Greene is defending well. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Axe is looking to take a break and control but Greene is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Blake Axe dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Axe closes the distance and clinches. Axe lands with a short shot to the head. Greene is trying to break free. Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Axe obliges. Axe lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Greene has had enough of the clinch but Axe keeps him there for the moment. Axe scores with a knee to the head.
It looks like Danny Greene has been cut. Axe putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Greene in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body. Axe keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Greene's efforts to push away. Knees to the body from Axe.
Axe lands a right hand that snaps the head of Greene backwards. Greene is trying to break the clinch but Axe is controlling him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Axe obliges. A frustrated look appears on Greene's face as he tries to break the clinch. Kneeeeees! They look like they could hurt.
Greene is breathing heavily. Axe will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Greene up against the cage. Axe unloads a knee to the mid-section. Greene lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh. A right hook to the body lands for Axe.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! A bit of stalling here from Axe.
A frustrated look appears on Greene's face as he tries to break the clinch. Axe lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Greene or not. Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Axe. A short left from Axe. Axe's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Axe works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Greene is trying to push Axe away but Axe has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Greene takes a shot to the head. Axe digs a right hand into Greene's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Greene's gas tank. Axe lands a good knee to the midsection. Greene won't want to take too many of those. Greene can't break the clinch.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Axe. Axe cracks Greene with a nice body shot. Axe avoiding damage.
Axe lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards. A nice left hand lands by Axe.
Axe is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Axe lands with a short shot to the head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Axe keeps control of Greene as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Greene has had enough of the clinch but Axe keeps him there for the moment. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Axe creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Axe gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head. Knees in the clinch landing for Axe.
Axe lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Greene. Greene working hard to break the clinch. Axe displaying some good clinch control by pressing Greene up against the cage. Axe stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body. Axe stalling against the cage.

The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch. The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Blake Axe. Axe moves into the clinch. Axe is stalling here.
Greene has had enough of the clinch but Axe keeps him there for the moment. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Greene wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Axe stalling.
Greene tries to circle away but Axe has him pinned against the cage. Nice body punch from Axe. Greene letting Axe take a breather here. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Blake Axe dominated that second round. The cut man is working on Danny Greene's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!
Axe misses with a takedown attempt and Greene counters with a nice body shot. Greene lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Axe backs up against the cage.
Axe is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Axe is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Axe closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Blake Axe overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Axe throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Axe tries for a kimura. That's three minutes gone in the round. Greene is squirming around, avoiding Axe's attempts to control the action. Axe tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Axe swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Blake Axe! During a confident post fight interview, Blake Axe thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
