Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dean Lister!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Steve Cantwell!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cantwell motions for Lister to come forward. Cantwell throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Lister shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Lister is working for a kimura but Cantwell is defending it quite comfortably.
Lister passes the guard and advances to mount!
Lister putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Lister lands a big elbow.

Lister is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Cantwell is surviving well by controlling Lister's body position as best he can.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Lister lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lister is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Cantwell can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Lister stands up from mount. Strange move.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Cantwell enables Lister to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Cantwell manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Cantwell looks gassed!
Lister wants to pass the guard but Cantwell is keeping the position.
Lister is looking to work some ground and pound but Cantwell has wrist control.
Lister is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Lister won't allow Cantwell to get back to his feet.
Lister stands up over Cantwell, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lister loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Cantwell being controlled here, momentarily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Lister thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Lister passes Cantwell's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Lister stalling away here and it's allowed Cantwell to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Lister slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Cantwell really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lister. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Lister lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lister lands a decent elbow from side control.
Lister works to advance to full mount. Cantwell defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Lister is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Cantwell slips a jab and a cross from Lister.

Lister shoots in and bounces Cantwell off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Lister with a nice head shot there.
Lister has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Lister is stalling in the full guard.
Lister passes Cantwell's left leg - he's now in half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Lister keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Lister seems to be working for a kimura but Cantwell defends the submission attempt.
Lister slows the pace down in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Lister is looking to advance position but Cantwell won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dean Lister dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Cantwell swats away the attempt to clinch by Lister.
Dean Lister is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Cantwell throws a right and a left that Lister avoids nicely.
Lister throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Lister is trying to control the position but Cantwell postures up.
Dean Lister overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Lister looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Lister has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Cantwell doesn't defend quickly enough and Lister has managed to lock this one up! Can Cantwell escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Lister on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:53 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Dean Lister!
