Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Roberto Colon! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kenny Worner! The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Chad Campbell and Alyssa Summers.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Worner tries to land a body kick and Colon counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Worner! The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Colon cracks Worner with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Colon is working for a guillotine from mount but Worner frees his head quite easily.
Worner is in all sorts of trouble here.
Colon goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Worner turns into him and now he's in Colon's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Worner trying to control but Colon is working from the bottom. Colon has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Worner can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Colon has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Worner is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Colon.
That's one minute gone in the round. Colon is trying to get back to half guard. Worner is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Worner tries to stand but Colon is controlling his head. Colon is not content to let Worner control the position. Colon is looking to reverse the position. Worner is looking to take a break and control but Colon is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Colon is trying to improve his position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Colon gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Colon looking for submissions off his back. Colon works his way to full guard. Good work. Colon has a closed guard, preventing Worner from standing up. Worner wants to control from the top but Colon keeps moving. Colon working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Worner doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Worner manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Colon has an active guard here but Worner has managed to pass into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Colon is not content to let Worner control the position. Worner might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Colon kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Colon is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Worner's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Worner's back! Colon avoiding Worner 's attempts to control his hands. Colon lands shots from the back. Worner defends a prolonged rear naked choke attempt and turns nicely into his opponent's guard. Colon has his foot on Worner's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Worner works his way back into a safe position though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Worner trying to control the position from guard on top but Colon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Colon is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Colon is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Colon is breathing heavily. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Colon had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Worner defends it easily. Worner postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Worner trying to control the position from guard on top but Colon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Worner trying to stand up but can't free himself from Colon's guard. Colon throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Roberto Colon dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Worner shoots in for a double leg but Colon sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. No joy there for Worner, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Worner wants to clinch up but Colon keeps it at a distance. Kenny Worner is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Worner tries to clinch but fails miserably and Colon counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Colon in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Colon is in close to Worner's body, working some short punches and elbows. Colon postures up.
Colon pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Worner is keeping the position for now. Colon has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
That's one minute gone in the round. Colon drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Colon as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Worner screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Colon! Nice submission victory there!
