Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bobby Henderson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
19 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wilson Gracie! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Cecil Peabody and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Henderson misses with a low kick. Henderson moves out of range as Gracie throws a body kick.
Henderson takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
No joy there for Henderson, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Henderson gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Henderson controls Gracie momentarily but Gracie frees himself. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Henderson keeping full guard, as Gracie tries to pass. Gracie scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Gracie working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Gracie is looking to work some ground and pound but Henderson has wrist control. Gracie scoring with punches to the head and body. Gracie must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Gracie pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Henderson is keeping the position for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Gracie advances position into side control! You can see the frustration on Henderson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Gracie is trying to get an arm triangle but Henderson is defending well. Gracie working the ground and pound from side control. Gracie takes a little break here. Henderson wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gracie scoring with punches from side control. Gracie wants to control but Henderson is keeping him busy. Henderson tries to buck Gracie off but Gracie is having none of it. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Henderson is working hard here to advance position. Henderson is breathing heavily. Gracie landing strikes. Henderson is letting Gracie control him for a moment. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Henderson wants to control but Gracie postures up. Henderson is looking for a sweep. Henderson wants to control but Gracie postures up. Gracie has hold of Henderson's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Henderson seems comfortable defending it but Gracie has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Henderson is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Henderson is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Gracie couldn't care less - he's delighted!
