Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 2, fighting out of London, Shawn Kowalski! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Shawn Gonzales! The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, James Atkins and Colin Fotheringham.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kowalski throws a right hand that Gonzales ducks under and follows up with a left that Gonzales also avoids with ease. Kowalski looks to land a body kick but Gonzales moved away. Gonzales fails with the takedown. Kowalski tries to work over Gonzales's front leg with a kick but Gonzales checks it. The fight stays on the outside here - Kowalski looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Kowalski misses with a body kick. Kowalski stalks Gonzales and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Gonzales's face. Gonzales staggers backwards, shaken. Kowalski throws a right and a left that both miss. Gonzales wants to clinch up but Kowalski keeps it at a distance. Gonzales shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kowalski pinned against the cage. Kowalski gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Gonzales misses with a few strikes there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kowalski drops Gonzales with a beautiful combination! Gonzales stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Kowalski is looking for the KO!
Gonzales is rocked! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Kowalski checks the leg kick nicely there.
Gonzales is still on wobbly legs! Can Kowalski finish him? Gonzales looks gassed! Kowalski darts in and clinches Gonzales up against the cage. Kowalski decides to pull guard. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Kowalski manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Gonzales manages to get himself to full guard.
Gonzales seems to have recovered his senses. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kowalski drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kowalski jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Gonzales is working an open guard so Kowalski takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Kowalski connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Kowalski Throws a clean left jab. Kowalski Twirls his body and connects with a Spinning Back Fist that connects flush with Gonzales's chin! Gonzales crumbles to the ground and Kowalski follows up with some unanswered strikes. It's all over!! Nice standup skills displayed by Kowalski!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Shawn Kowalski! An out of breath Shawn Kowalski thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
