Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joshua Casey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tim Alvarez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tim Alvarez!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Paul Gruel and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Casey gets a clinch.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Casey takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Casey escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Alvarez fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Casey avoids it really well and circles away.
A right-left combo lands from Casey.


It looks like Tim Alvarez has been cut.
No luck for Alvarez with that takedown attempt.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Alvarez jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Casey is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Casey and Alvarez has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Alvarez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Casey keeps working.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Casey gets back to half guard.
Casey wants to get back to his feet.

Casey pushes Alvarez off looking to stand but Alvarez dives back in and keeps control.
Alvarez throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Casey to regain full guard.

Casey is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Alvarez is controlling him.

Casey bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Alvarez's guard.

Casey stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Alvarez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Casey wants to control from the top but Alvarez keeps moving.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Casey stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Casey wants it to stay on the feet.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Alvarez.
Alvarez throws a front kick aimed at Casey's knee but Casey avoids it well.
Casey shoots in but Alvarez avoids the takedown attempt easily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Alvarez can do anything to dispel that myth.
Casey seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Alvarez does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Casey is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Alvarez is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Joshua Casey.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Casey, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
