Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jon Holmes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Markus Elija!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Elija shoots for a takedown but Holmes saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Elija looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Elija gets caught flat footed, as Holmes shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Holmes drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Holmes jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Holmes passes Elija's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Holmes is trying to work for a kimura but Elija is defending well.

Holmes is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Elija has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Holmes has control of Elija's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Elija regains control of the situation pretty easily.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Holmes looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Elija gets back to half guard.

Holmes has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Elija is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Holmes yanks on the arm and Elija is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Holmes.

Jon Holmes decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
