Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
18 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Jamison McGowen! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
20 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Paul Poulter! The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Glass and Sam Margolis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Poulter moves into the clinch. McGowen drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Poulter gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Poulter prevents the takedown attempt.
McGowen has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Poulter is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jamison McGowen. That's going to take a lot out of him. Poulter's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. McGowen takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. McGowen lands a really nice looking cross but Poulter seems unphased.
Poulter uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by McGowen.
McGowen scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Poulter gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Poulter avoiding damage under a succession of punches from McGowen. Poulter holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. McGowen thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Poulter is staying active underneath McGowen, who seems content to just control the action from this position. McGowen not landing any meaningful shots this time. McGowen wants to control but Poulter is keeping him busy. McGowen wants to free his trapped foot but Poulter is holding on for dear life with his legs. Poulter avoiding damage under a succession of punches from McGowen. Poulter is looking to improve his position.
McGowen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. McGowen throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. McGowen is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Poulter manages to get to full guard. McGowen wants to control from the top but Poulter keeps moving. McGowen postures up.
McGowen looking to pass the guard. McGowen throws a big right hand that misses. McGowen trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. McGowen postures up in Poulter's guard and throws a big left but Poulter blocks it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McGowen would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. McGowen looking to sit in guard and control but Poulter gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Poulter trying to control but McGowen is working from the bottom. McGowen has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Poulter is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for McGowen. Poulter controls the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Poulter working away. McGowen is trying to improve his position. Poulter wants to take a breather but McGowen manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Poulter. McGowen is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Poulter avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

McGowen cracks Poulter with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. McGowen misses with a double jab
and Poulter counters with a nice low kick that buckles McGowen's knee momentarily. McGowen slips a jab and a cross from Poulter.
McGowen throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Poulter. McGowen fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Poulter looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Poulter looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. McGowen jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Jamison McGowen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. McGowen swings for the body but Poulter moves out of range.
No luck with that takedown attempt from McGowen. McGowen walks into a left hand. McGowen throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Poulter sees it coming and avoids it easily. Poulter uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by McGowen.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. McGowen throws the left hand but Poulter avoids the punch easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. McGowen lands with a hook. Poulter tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. McGowen scores with a jab. Poulter uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by McGowen.
McGowen throws a jab when Poulter was well out of range. McGowen fails with the takedown and Poulter holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. McGowen wants a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jamison McGowen. That's going to take a lot out of him. McGowen works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
McGowen looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. McGowen is trying to pull guard but Poulter turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Poulter working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely. McGowen jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Poulter walks away with a smile on his face. McGowen gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Poulter. McGowen fails with the takedown.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Poulter throws the kick towards the body but McGowen avoids it. Poulter closes the distance and clinches. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! McGowen has a couple of punches blocked by Poulter.
Poulter is pressed up against the cage. McGowen has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Poulter down to the mat. Poulter avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. McGowen throws a lazy uppercut
and Poulter counters with a right hand to the body. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Poulter lands a slapping body shot.
Poulter tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Poulter lands with a slapping head kick.
It looks like Jamison McGowen has been cut. McGowen blocks a head kick by Poulter.
McGowen doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. McGowen closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Poulter's guard. Poulter looking to hit a scissor sweep but McGowen is one step ahead there. Poulter is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McGowen throws an elbow that misses. Poulter uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in McGowen's guard. Nice move by Poulter! McGowen keeping full guard, as Poulter tries to pass. Poulter passes McGowen's left leg - he's now in half guard. McGowen is trying to stand.
That's four minutes gone in the round. McGowen tries to roll over but Poulter keeps him under control. McGowen works his way to full guard. Good work. McGowen escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Poulter gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Poulter wants to control from the top but McGowen keeps moving. Poulter won't allow McGowen to sweep him here. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! McGowen working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Poulter has passed into half guard!

A close second round but Paul Poulter will probably get the nod - 10:9. The cut man is working on Jamison McGowen's cut. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
McGowen thows a body shot but no joy. Poulter ducks right into an uppercut from McGowen. Poulter ducks down and throws a hook to the body but McGowen moves away. The fight stays on the outside here - McGowen looks like he's thinking about clinching though. McGowen scores with a jab to the head.
Poulter fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt McGowen. McGowen looks to throw the jab but Poulter is out of range. Poulter misses with a low kick.
Poulter stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Poulter wants it to stay on the feet. Nice uppercut lands for Poulter. That snapped McGowen's head back.
McGowen misses with a straight left. McGowen throws a poor cross that misses
and Poulter counters with a nice body shot. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Poulter keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's one minute gone in the round. Poulter showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from McGowen.
Both fighters are breathing heavily. Poulter cracks McGowen with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Poulter with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Poulter throws a shot to the body.
Poulter lands a big head kick that sends McGowen tumbling to the mat! Poulter takes a step backwards and waves McGowen back to his feet - he wants the finish!
McGowen is rocked! This has been an exciting period of action! McGowen shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Poulter pinned against the cage. Poulter gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Oh McGowen is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jamison McGowen. That's going to take a lot out of him. McGowen gets hit by the mother of all head kicks and drops to the canvas in a crumpled heap! Woooow, the Internet is going to be talking about this one for weeks!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:36 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Paul Poulter! Paul Poulter retains his heavyweight title! Paul Poulter really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that CEC Nutrition Q160 logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
