Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dave Bautista! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Freeman! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Gwen Towbar and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bautista takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
It looks like Dave Bautista has been cut. Bautista really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Freeman moves in looking to clinch but Bautista pushes him off. Bautista forces Freeman back against the cage and clinches. Freeman has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Freeman is trying to break the clinch but Bautista is controlling him. Freeman manages to break the clinch.
Freeman doesn't succeed with the takedown and Bautista counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Bautista. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Bautista throws a big right hand that misses. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Bautista controlling from the top position. Bautista trying to control but Freeman is working from the bottom. Freeman is trying to control the position from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bautista would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Bautista postures up.
Dave Bautista has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Freeman shoots in for a takedown but Bautista shows good takedown defense. Bautista lands a left and a right that send Freeman crashing to the mat, dazed. Bautista thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
It looks like John Freeman has been cut. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Freeman throws a poor cross that misses
and Bautista counters with a nice double leg into side control. Freeman won't be happy with that. Freeman is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Freeman trying to remain calm as Bautista controls from the top position. Bautista trying to control the action but Freeman is working from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Freeman sneaks back into half guard. Bautista tries to pass the half guard into mount. Freeman knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Freeman tries to kick Bautista off but Bautista keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Bautista knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Freeman on the ground. Bautista is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Freeman has managed to free his arm - good work. Bautista wants to work for an arm triangle but Freeman is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Freeman has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Bautista is working away from the top position though.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bautista with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Freeman makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Freeman. Bautista controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Bautista has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Freeman is proving hard to escape from. Bautista showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Dave Bautista just wasn't active enough. Freeman shoots in but no luck this time. Dave Bautista has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Freeman.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Freeman looks to clinch and Bautista counters with a nice double leg into side control. Freeman won't be happy with that. Freeman looks gassed! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Freeman sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Freeman is looking to control Bautista's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Freeman avoid being mounted? Freeman is trying to stand back up but Bautista is controlling him
Freeman gets back to full guard.
Freeman lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Bautista! The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Bautista is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Dave Bautista dominated that round. Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Bautista scores with a takedown into Freeman's guard. Freeman is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Bautista prevents Freeman from getting back to his feet. Bautista gets to his feet. Freeman looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Bautista drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bautista decides to stand back up. Bautista steps back and let's Freeman get back to his feet. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Bautista darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Freeman is breathing heavily. Bautista stops Freeman from getting back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Bautista scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Bautista trying to control the pace. Bautista is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Bautista lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bautista seems to be looking for submissions.
The fighters are battling for position here. Freeman manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Bautista trying to control the position from guard on top but Freeman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Freeman is trying to control the position but Bautista postures up. Bautista trying to control but Freeman is working from the bottom. Freeman looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
This has been an exciting period of action! Bautista wants to pass the guard but Freeman is keeping the position. Dave Bautista overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bautista sitting in guard, not really doing much. Bautista stands up and waves to Freeman to follow him. Freeman looks to land a combination but Bautista avoids it well. Bautista throws a combination. Freeman tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Nice takedown defense from Bautista. No joy for Freeman on that attempt. Freeman misses with a combination
and Bautista comes in over the top with a devastating right hand! Freeman stumbles back against the cage, looking to regain his senses but Bautista is on him like rabid pit bull! Freeman slumps to the ground under a storm of punches and this fight is over!
