PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Genghis Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Chon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Khan kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Mongol. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Genghis Khan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Daniel Chon!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Khan keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Chon keeps the fight on the outside.
Chon swats away the attempt to clinch by Khan.
Chon misses with a double jab
and Khan counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Khan blocks a jab.
Khan tries to clinch up but Chon circles away and keeps his distance.
Chon finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Khan throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Khan tries to clinch but Chon moves out of range.

Khan closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Khan manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Chon wanted to stand there but Khan had control of the position.

Khan has his hands on Chon's head, controlling the position.

Genghis Khan has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Sloppy strikes from Chon. Those never looked like landing.
Chon throws a right hand that Khan ducks under and follows up with a left that Khan also avoids with ease.

Khan closes the distance and clinches.

Khan breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Khan drags the fight down to the ground.

Khan pulls Chon in close to prevent any damage.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Chon misses with a combination
and Khan counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Khan moves out of range of the body kick from Chon.
Daniel Chon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Khan tries to close the distance and clinch up but Chon swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Chon pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

Khan drives through and clinches with Chon against the cage.

Chon jumps guard.
Khan trying to control but Chon is working from the bottom.
Khan throwing strikes from guard but Chon blocks nicely.
Chon keeping full guard, as Khan tries to pass.
Chon working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Khan.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Khan not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Genghis Khan just wasn't active enough.
Chon misses with a few strikes there.
Sloppy strikes from Chon. Those never looked like landing.
Khan moves away from the strike by Chon.
A low kick from Chon misses

and Khan counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Khan.
Khan lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Chon is looking to break free of the clinch but Khan has double underhooks.

Khan gets control of Chon's arms and successfully pulls guard. Khan will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Chon has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Khan is proving hard to escape from.
Chon must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Khan is on top in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Genghis Khan dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Chon misses with a left hand

and Khan counters by clinching up.
Khan stalling against the cage.

Khan pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Khan tries to close the distance and clinch up but Chon swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Chon shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Khan has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Khan breaks from the clinch.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Khan, as that shot connected.
Chon avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Khan uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Chon.
Khan moves out of range as Chon throws a body kick.

Chon looks to score with a jab to the body but Khan is just out of range.
A decent looking cross lands there for Khan.
Chon throws a combination that misses
and Khan counters with a right hand to the body.
Chon misses with a few strikes there.

Khan has Chon up against the cage in a clinch.

Chon manages to pull guard.
Chon wants to get back to his feet but Khan is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Khan trying to control but Chon is working from the bottom.

Khan is stalling in the full guard.
Khan trying to control the position from guard on top but Chon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Chon looks to land a combination but Khan avoids it well.

Chon lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Khan circles away quickly and effectively.
Chon throws a nice looking combination but Khan bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Chon keeps the fight on the outside.
Chon fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Khan manages to avoid it.

Khan takes the fight into the clinch.
Khan scores with a nice hook to the head.
Khan throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

Chon pulls Khan into guard.
Khan advances to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Khan is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Khan throws a strike but Chon avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Khan not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Khan has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Chon uses from the top position.

Khan controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Khan trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Khan postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Chon is looking to stand up but Khan isn't so interested in that idea.
Chon can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Khan controls the pace.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Khan slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Chon avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

and Khan counters by clinching up.

Khan pulls guard successfully.
Khan is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Khan thows a huge punch but Chon dodges it nicely.
Khan passes to side control.
Chon gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Khan throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Chon is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Genghis Khan showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Khan has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
