3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sergei Smashsky! The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Yukihiro Shimada and Hirohito Nitta.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Smashsky bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Smashsky is looking to take a break and control but Konrad is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Smashsky working the head with strikes.
It looks like Cole Konrad has been cut. Konrad is looking to regain half guard here but Smashsky keeps moving and retains side control. Smashsky wants to lay and pray for a moment but Konrad keeps working. Smashsky looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Konrad is avoiding damage well.
Smashsky tries to move to mount but Konrad blocks the move with his legs. Smashsky fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Smashsky throws a strike aimed at the side of Konrad's head but Konrad avoids it well. Konrad prevents Smashsky from moving into mount. Check out the look on Smashsky's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Smashsky won't allow Konrad to sweep him here. Smashsky passes Konrad's left leg - he's now in half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Smashsky landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Konrad blocking the ground and pound attempt from Smashsky. Smashsky wants to free his trapped foot but Konrad is holding on for dear life with his legs. Smashsky is trying to control the action in half guard but Konrad is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smashsky not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Smashsky landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Smashsky trying to control from Konrad's half guard. Konrad has other ideas though and has regained full guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Smashsky postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Smashsky landing some decent shots from guard. Smashsky won't allow Konrad to get back to his feet. Konrad has momentary wrist control but Smashsky slips an elbow through the middle. That's three minutes gone in the round. Konrad preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Smashsky lands a couple of elbows. Smashsky wants to control from the top but Konrad keeps moving. Konrad throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Konrad on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Konrad tries to get out of the position. Smashsky working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Smashsky is looking to work some ground and pound but Konrad has wrist control. Konrad has his foot on Smashsky's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Smashsky works his way back into a safe position though. Smashsky advances to half guard. Konrad avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Smashsky. Smashsky not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Smashsky thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Konrad's head. Smashsky maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Konrad could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Smashsky has cracked it and Konrad is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Smashsky!

After the fight, Sergei Smashsky was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
