The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

so Slim counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Sparxx wants to stand up but Slim is controlling him.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Barbados Slim hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Sparxx throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

and Slim counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Sparxx comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Sparxx throws a right and a left that both miss.
Slim lands with a nice body punch.
Sparxx throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Slim.
Slim closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Sparxx tries to kick Slim off but Slim keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Sparxx won't allow Slim to pass to mount.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Slim's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Barbados Slim was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Slim postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Sparxx looks a forlorn figure.

Sparxx's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
