The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Matheus Silva and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stratus ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Maia moves away.
Stratus misses with a low kick.
Jay Stratus seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Stratus throws a half hearted mid kick.
Maia misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Maia closes this distance looking for a takedown but Stratus circles away.
Maia avoids a punch combination nicely.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Stratus, right into the meat.
Stratus thows a body shot but no joy.
Stratus lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Maia at a distance.
Maia ducks right into an uppercut from Stratus.

Stratus ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Maia moves away.

A left and a right from Stratus both land. Nice combination.
Stratus swings away with a leg kick that misses.

Maia takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Stratus lands a nice shot that snaps Maia's head back.
Stratus lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Stratus lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Maia at a distance.
Stratus swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Maia.

and Maia decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Stratus's guard.
Maia is breathing heavily.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Stratus can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Maia controls the pace.
Maia thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Maia drops back looking for a leg! Stratus is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Stratus manages to kick Maia off! Maia jumps back into Stratus's guard.
Maia is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Maia stops Stratus from standing up.

Maia passes Stratus's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Maia is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Stratus defends it well.
Maia is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Stratus is trying to control but can't.
Maia works his way into full mount!

Maia is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Stratus can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Maia has control of Stratus's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Stratus regains control of the situation pretty easily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Maia throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Stratus has his hands clasped together but Maia breaks the hold and Stratus is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Maia!
