Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Harry Fong!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Darwin France!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Yukihiro Shimada and Hirohito Nitta.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fong lands with a good body shot.
Fong throws a body kick that misses.
Fong throws a head kick that misses.
Fong misses with a head kick.
Fong misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Fong tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
France shoots in but Fong avoids the takedown attempt easily.
France slips under a jab.
France closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Fong to the mat! Fong manages to get full guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
France drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and France jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
France postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Fong is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of France, into his guard.
That's one minute gone in the round.
France has his foot on Fong's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Fong works his way back into a safe position though.
France escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Fong gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Fong got a little sloppy there for a moment and France has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Fong has managed to get both his arms back between France's legs - danger averted.
France has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Fong can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
France is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Fong is aware though and is defending well.
France pushes a forearm under Fong's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Fong is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Darwin France!
