PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gabriel Odonnell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan McCarthy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Ryan McCarthy was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Gabriel Odonnell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ryan McCarthy!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, James Glass and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McCarthy drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Odonnell throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.
McCarthy in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Odonnell is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
McCarthy working the head with strikes.
McCarthy fails to land a wild elbow strike.

That's one minute gone in the round.
McCarthy cracks Odonnell with a big elbow.
Odonnell regains half guard, as McCarthy was trying to land strikes.
McCarthy stalling.
Odonnell is trying to maintain the position but McCarthy is very close to passing his half guard.
McCarthy controlling the action here.
Odonnell is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute McCarthy jumps into side control!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
McCarthy content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
It looks like McCarthy might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Odonnell is trying to control McCarthy's posture but McCarthy avoids it.

McCarthy decides to stand back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

McCarthy bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Odonnell takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
McCarthy slows the pace down.
Odonnell is looking to reverse the position.
McCarthy takes a little break here. Odonnell wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

McCarthy has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
McCarthy has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from McCarthy there as he acknowledges the shot.


It looks like Ryan McCarthy has been cut.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Odonnell has his takedown stuffed

and McCarthy counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Odonnell's guard now.
This has been an exciting period of action!
McCarthy throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Odonnell works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
McCarthy trying to control but Odonnell is working from the bottom.
McCarthy sitting in guard, not really doing much.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Ryan McCarthy wasn't active enough on the ground.
Odonnell throws a series of punches but McCarthy moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryan McCarthy dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Ryan McCarthy's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Odonnell tries to bum rush McCarthy with a series of wild strikes but McCarthy uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Odonnell falls off balance throwing a combination

so McCarthy counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
McCarthy trying to control but Odonnell is working from the bottom.
McCarthy slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

McCarthy is working to tighten is grip on Odonnell's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Odonnell has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but McCarthy is really squeezing tight and eventually Odonnell passes out! McCarthy breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:49 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Ryan McCarthy!
