PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Quinton Harry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake LaMotta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Harry comes to the cage accompanied by Just like You Imagined by Nine Inch Nails. LaMotta has chosen Cavalleria Rusticana: Intermezzo as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 8 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Quinton Harry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 33 - 17 - 0, fighting out of London, Jake LaMotta!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Viktor Lagutenko and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Harry throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. LaMotta was covering up waiting for the punch and Harry finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Harry wants to control from the top but LaMotta keeps moving.
Harry is looking to stand up but LaMotta won't let him.
Harry trying to control the position from guard on top but LaMotta is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Quinton Harry.

LaMotta gets the takedown into side control.
LaMotta tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
LaMotta sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Harry is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The ground and pound from LaMotta seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Harry is trying to get back to half guard.
LaMotta scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Harry to see if he's OK.

LaMotta is looking to take a break and control but Harry is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Harry seems a little lost for a moment, as LaMotta dominates the positioning.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Check out the look on LaMotta's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
LaMotta cracks Harry with a big right hand but Harry just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

LaMotta is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Harry has escaped the position, nice work there.
LaMotta lands a decent elbow from side control.


Harry is rocked!

Oh Harry is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

LaMotta tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no LaMotta has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
LaMotta lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

LaMotta is trying to get an arm triangle but Harry is defending well.
Harry is trying to buck LaMotta off.
LaMotta in side control here. He's dropped a big elbow there and Harry looks hurt! Oh, he is hurt! LaMotta turns on the heat and pounds him out for a TKO victory! Good killer instinct there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jake LaMotta!
Post fight, an emotional Jake LaMotta said 'Greatness isn't a matter of opinion, it's a matter of fact!'.
