Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 1 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Santiago Santiago! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Nathanial Palmer! The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yasuomi Hirokawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Palmer tries to clinch up. No luck with that takedown attempt from Santiago. Palmer gets tackled into the cage by Santiago. Santiago maintains the clinch. Palmer scores with a shot to the side of Santiago's head. Santiago is defending well against a takedown attempt. Santiago tries for a takedown. No joy.
Santiago has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Palmer after a bit of a struggle. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Santiago Santiago. That's going to take a lot out of him. Palmer breaks from the clinch.
Santiago drives through and clinches with Palmer against the cage.
Palmer pulls guard successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Palmer manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Santiago tries to hold on but Palmer postures up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Santiago is trying to reverse the position but instead Palmer has taken his back - oops! Santiago rolls, trying to escape but Palmer keeps control of the position.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Santiago wants to escape the position.
Palmer biding his time, controlling Santiago. Santiago tries to roll but Palmer sticks to his back.
Santiago is working hard here to advance position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Palmer is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Santiago has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Palmer has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Santiago taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Palmer doesn't care though - he's delighted!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Nathanial Palmer!
