Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between George Maupin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Pain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pain has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. George Maupin had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, George Maupin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Pain! The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Skip Squint and Bruno Hogan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Maupin shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Pain pinned against the cage. Pain gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Pain looks gassed! Nice takedown defense from Pain. No joy for Maupin on that attempt. Maupin defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Pain. Maupin has Pain up against the cage in a clinch.
Maupin goes for a takedown in the clinch but Pain prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for George Maupin. That's going to take a lot out of him. Maupin breaks from the clinch.

Pain takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Maupin stuns Pain with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Maupin shoots in but Pain avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Maupin clinches up against the cage. Maupin decides to pull guard. Maupin lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Pain! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Maupin tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Maupin trying to control but Pain is having none of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Maupin throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage. Maupin tries to control but Pain wriggling away. Pain avoids a series of strikes thrown by Maupin.
Maupin can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Pain is looking to escape. Maupin tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pain wants to try and get back to his feet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Maupin punching from mount but Pain doing a good job of avoiding damage. Maupin sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it! Poor strikes thrown by Maupin there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Pain holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Maupin tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Maupin breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Maupin misses with a takedown attempt - Pain sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. He's pushed Pain's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Maupin has taken the fight to the clinch.

Maupin forces Pain back against the cage and clinches. Maupin has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Pain uses from the top position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pain trying to control but Maupin is working from the bottom. Maupin knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pain on the ground. Pain content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Pain wants to stand and escape but instead Maupin has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Pain keeping moving, preventing Maupin from controlling successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Maupin thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Pain wants to stand up but Maupin is controlling him. Maupin is looking to work some ground and pound but Pain has wrist control. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Maupin accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Maupin pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Pain is keeping the position for now. Pain has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Maupin off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Maupin fails with a takedown attempt. Pain avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Maupin throws a right hand that Pain ducks under and follows up with a left that Pain also avoids with ease. Maupin cracks Pain with a good jab. Horrible takedown by Maupin or perhaps it was just good defense by Pain which made him look bad. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Maupin throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Pain's waist but Pain gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Maupin off to one side. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
George Maupin dominated that second round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!
Pain looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Maupin is fending him off so far but Pain persists. Nope, Maupin circles away and we're back to standing. Maupin throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Pain's waist but Pain gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Maupin off to one side. Maupin tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Pain swivels and escapes. Maupin tries for a takedown but Pain sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for George Maupin. That's going to take a lot out of him. Pain steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Maupin. That one must have hurt. Maupin fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Pain looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Maupin moves into the clinch. Maupin goes for a takedown attempt but Pain pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

That's one minute gone in the round. Maupin looks for a takedown but Pain sprawls well. Pain tries to score a power double leg takedown but Maupin sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Pain somewhat. Maupin misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Pain shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Maupin manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Pain wants to stand but Maupin is controlling his posture from full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Maupin is trying to keep Pain in close.
George Maupin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Pain is stalling in the full guard. Pain loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Maupin is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pain has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Maupin after a bit of a struggle. Maupin wants a takedown but no success here.

Maupin wants to pass the guard but Pain is keeping the position. Pain escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Maupin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Pain is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Maupin defends well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Pain tries to land a sweep but no joy. Maupin has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Maupin wants to stand but Pain is controlling his posture from full guard. Maupin got a little sloppy there for a moment and Pain has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Maupin has managed to get both his arms back between Pain's legs - danger averted.
And that's the end of the fight! John Pain comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Maupin has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
