The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Swanson throws a sloppy head kick

and Gomez counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Gomez wants to pass the guard but Swanson is keeping the position.
Gomez works a leg free and moves into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gomez is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Swanson sees it coming and defends easily.

Swanson has one foot on Gomez's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Swanson is breathing heavily.
Swanson blocks a head kick by Gomez.
Swanson keeps Gomez at a distance using the push kick.
Swanson defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Gomez.

Swanson throws a head kick that misses

and Gomez counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Gomez is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Gomez is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Swanson doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Gomez.

Gomez has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Swanson defend it? Gomez steps over the head and cranks it - Swanson is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Gomez!
